I read this over the summer last year and it was such an exciting read! It's got a little bit of everything for everyone: adventure, drama, romance, suspense and of course there are themes of love, forgiveness and kindness there. Such an engaging read, would highly recommend if you'd like to feel like a 12 year old again (in a good way)
Angelology
Buy this bookEllen says:
This book combines everything I love; puzzles, mysteries, adventure through the eyes of scholars known as Angelologists. The characters are well developed individuals, and the plot is engaging. It has been a favourite for many years.
Emma says:
I loved the blend between historical and magical realism genres in this book and just think it is the most perfect and most touching short read I have read in the past year. It is a story about women's suffering in the witch hunt era, women supporting each other and love and friendship whilst being most brutally touching and thought-provoking.
The Return
Buy this bookGeraint says:
See my recommendation about "The Island".
The Island
Buy this bookGeraint says:
Written in 2005, "The Island" is a beautiful and moving tale of four generations rent by war, illicit love, violence and leprosy, from the thirties, through WW2, to the present day. The story of Spinalonga - Greece's former leper colony is incredible, heart-warming and educational. The follow up novel "The Return" continues the story to a modern day conclusion. Both brilliant.
Say Nothing
Buy this bookGeraint says:
A true story of murder and memory in Northern Ireland. Superbly, sympathetically and accurately written, the account focuses on the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
