Shannon (Manchester)

Hi! I’m 30 and live just 15 minutes away from Manchester town centre. I’m looking to make some new friends discussing my number one passion: books! I mainly read fantasy, but have recently been expanding out into horrors, thrillers, and sci-fi. Have a wonderful day! :)

Shannon recommends:

The Final Empire
by Brandon Sanderson | Learn more and buy
Every single moment is actin-packed, and every single book in this series has a fantastic twist and heart wrenching moments, the conclusion of this trilogy has really yet to be topped in my eyes! This introduced me to Brandon Sanderson‘s writing and just cemented him as forever fave and immediate auto-buy author for me.
The Forgetting Moon
by Brian Lee Durfee | Learn more and buy
The characters (especially the dog, Beer Mug) are such a wonderful mix of likeable and easily despise-able, the world is vast and well crafted, and the stakes are so high, you have absolutely no clue. What will happen next!
Assassin’s Apprentice
by Robin Hobb | Learn more and buy
Do you want your heart absolutely shattered into a million teeny tiny pieces? If yes, may I introduce you to the amazing Robin Hobb and her poor fictional child; Fitzchivalry Farseer. I love this book so much I submitted my own beaten, loved and annotated copy as part of my Masters dissertation.

Lucy (Seaton)

Hi! I'm 26 and live in East Devon. I'm hoping to meet some new people and hopefully make some genuine friendships. I love reading and will happily read pretty much any genre, so I'm always up for swapping book recommendations. I also love coffee, wandering around garden centres, and doing crafts like crochet, and I'm also trying to get into watercolour painting. I'm pretty laid-back and happy to meet up as little or as often as suits. Whether it's grabbing a coffee, having a browse around a bookshop or garden centre, or just having a chat about the latest book we've read, it'd be lovely to get to know some like-minded people.

Lucy recommends:

11.22.53
by Stephen King | Learn more and buy
The number of pages in this book can seem quite overwhelming at the start, and with it being a Stephen King novel, there is a perception that it’s going to be a thriller, but it really isn’t. It’s such an addictive read, and the fact that it had so many pages actually made me sink into the story even more. I loved the vintage feel of it and all the characters. It’s one of those books that completely draws you in and makes you feel immersed in the world.

Chloe (Sudbury)

My favourite book genres would be romance, cosy crime, mystery, feel-good novels, or an inspiring self-help read. I would describe myself as quite crafty. I enjoy traveling, keeping active and trying new things. I am looking to join a book club to meet new people and find some amazing new books to read!

It is a lovely, uplifting read. I enjoyed watching the characters grow and the different types of people join together to make a community from their love of puzzles.

Ramis (Bournemouth)

Somewhat new to reading so I’m open to genres. Looking to make new friends and chat with others who enjoy reading. I’m a 21 year old dude and I’m interested in making friends around my age and in book clubs for young adults! While I am interested in hearing recommendations for all genres, I’m particularly keen on reading the literary classics that the video game “Limbus Company” derives its main cast from. So far I have read a handful of these and have enjoyed them a lot! Do contact me if you know any Bournemouth-based book clubs or just want to talk books! My Instagram is @coolramis if you’d rather contact me through non-email means.

Ramis recommends:

The Stranger by Albert Camus

Very short but enjoyable read. Straightforward and easy to read through. Despite its short nature, the book has some very interesting ideas and contains themes relating to existentialism and absurdism which I personally found very fascinating!

I'm a slow reader that loves to discuss and analyse and argue. Some of my favourite authors include Susanna Clarke, Donna Tartt, Shirley Jackson and Ursula K. Le Guin. Currently trying to dip my toes into some translated classics. Open to anything with good writing :)

Giulia (London)

Hi everyone! I'm looking to join a book club to make friends and to push myself to read more. I grew up an avid reader but in the age of technology and social media and having a desk job I lost my reading sparkle. I read all kinds of books but I gravitate towards the classics, thrillers, mistery, true crime, sci-fi if it's not the boring or spicy kind that read like fanfic. I just got a brand new bookcase so please help me fill it!

Giulia recommends:

Crying in H Mart
by Michelle Zauner | Learn more and buy
This is the true story of Michelle Zauner, lead vocalist of Japanese Breakfast. It's an extremely personal portrait of a multi-cultural family dealing with dysfunction and loss, mainly through home-made korean cuisine. It resonated with me on a deep level and I found myself enraged, crying with grief and laughing throughout the book.

Hello I’m 18, I adore reading, particularly historical fantasy whether it be mythological retellings or built up entirely in an author’s own mind. But I’m open to any genre, even non fiction if it is centred towards the ancient world. I’m just looking for fellow readers that would like to discuss their thoughts and opinions, or simply gush over their favourite book of the month.

Recently back in the area, and I'd love to find a monthly book club for other bookish folks! Especially 30s/40s, feminist and queer literature and non fiction, ideally somewhere that meets in a pub with readers who want to meet new people!
