Booker? I hardly know her

Looking to start a NEW book club. Loosely following the booker prize. Essentially meaning reading new releases eligible for the booker prize 2026, and eventually reading the long list and picking our own winner. I am new to Edinburgh so looking to make new connections in my new home. About me - female, 32, love reading and talking about books. Plan would be to meet once a month in various pubs/cafes in town and or maybe the odd cinema trip for films based on books Please reach out if interested!

Pages and Pastries

Really keen to start up a new book club for some likeminded people who want to get back into reading and would like to meet every 3 weeks to a month to discuss our chosen book, eat some delish pastries and drink some good coffee! I enjoy reading fantasy and books about all types of psychology but I am also eager to start reading books/genres I wouldn’t usually opt for! Reach out if this is something you’d be interested in getting involved with / helping me set up! :)

Eva

Hi, I’m Eva, 27, currently living in Edinburgh. I’m looking to join a book club with like-minded, bookish people who enjoy a good chat. I’d also love to make new friends in the city and join regular meet-ups, it’d be great to have something engaging outside of work every once in a while. My favourite genres are fiction, young adult, romance, fantasy, dystopian, science fiction, and thriller.

AFTG? I don’t even know where to start. This series has had me in a chokehold for the past decade. Oh before someone says it, is it unrealistic? Yes. Do I absolutely love the hell out of it and continue to indulge myself by rereading it for the 100th time? Also yes. All for the Game by Nora Sakavic follows Neil Josten, a runaway with a dangerous past who ends up joining a college sports team called the Palmetto State Foxes, a group of chaotic, broken players bound together by their shared love for Exy(a made-up, high-speed sport that’s like lacrosse on steroids). But beneath all that, it’s a story tangled with secrets, survival, the Japanese mafia that threaten to unravel everything Neil’s built and an enemies-to-something-much-more dynamic that will wreck you in the best way possible. It’s messy, dark, and often uncomfortable, but it has a beautiful and addictive blend of found family, trauma, loyalty, and violence that somehow turns into something beautiful and unforgettable. The characters are complex, morally grey, and painfully real in the most unexpected ways. Trigger warnings: abuse, trauma, violence, and heavy themes etc. its a whole page of warnings; please please please check before reading! But if you love stories about resilience, trust hard-won through chaos, found family, this one will live rent-free in your head forever. Trust me on this one and give it a shot. (Ps. If you did love it as much as I did, come over to the dark side and reach out to me, because we’ve got loads to unpack:))

ValM

I'm a writer and new to Edinburgh and eager to meet new people, chat all things books and more. I primarily write children's fiction (not yet published, but nearly!) and am working on my first romance fiction so I'm pretty much open to reading anything :)

ValM recommends:

Rachels Holiday
by Marian Keynes | Buy this book
From the start it seems like this is just going to be a book about addiction, but it is far far more. The comedy, unreliable narrator (which is only revealed part way through the story), the arc development, pace and motivations for each character are excellent. It's a recent find (though a relatively older book now). Again Rachel is even better.

I am looking for a book group to meet new people and encourage me to read more widely. I used to be a very prolific reader but now find it hard to really find a book I get totally absorbed in. If anyone is interested in starting one with me in the Barnton /Cramond area please let me know.

Looking for a book club in Edinburgh as a way to meet new people and make connections, as well as being encouraged to read things I wouldn’t necessarily choose for myself. I mostly read contemporary fiction and crime novels.

I'm 26. I really enjoy reading but I'm a bit out of the habit and would love to join a book club to get back into it again! I usually read fiction (literary/historical/horror) but happy to try out anything including non-fiction too!

Ellie

I am 33, I used to read a ton but I've been on a reading slump for a few years that I've recently started to get out of. :) I think joining a book club and having engaging conversations will keep me motivated reach my reading goals this year (to complete least 20 books). I like literary fiction, a bit of fantasy (I loved Name of the Wind!), and non-fiction books on psychology and human relationships. Also want to read more LGBT+ books this year. <3

It takes a while to get you sucked in, but once it happens it's just a great fantasy book. It's quite descriptive and you can't not root for Kvothe, the main character, orphaned at a young age in a traumatic encounter where his whole family and travelling troupe gets killed by some mysterious figures, who then has to do everything in his power to survive - and he is great at it! There is so much going on in this novel that it's hard to summarise. (also it's part of a trilogy) But it contains music, study, mystery, a few dragons, strong friendships and romance, which is a magic blend of elements for me.

I am looking to join a friendly book group to help me in finding books I wouldn't otherwise read. I enjoy discussing what I've read with others and look forward to any feel and meaningful conversations that stem from a book group setting. I am a lover of a psychological/crime thriller, but am open to all genres.
