Lookabooka

Hi! Hoping to join a book group, maybe one that's quite new so we're all on an even footing in terms of getting to know one another. Love general fiction, literary, historical, bit of memoir now and then, but open to anything interesting. I'm 38, and just getting back into reading more seriously now my kids are sleeping more haha!

I'm new to Edinburgh, an avid reader all my life and worked in an independent book shop in Banchory, Kincardineshire for 15 years. I would like to meet new people who share my love of reading.

I am semi retired and am an avid reader. I enjoyed being in a book club but had to leave the group when i moved house. Really miss being part of a book group where i am challenged to read some books that l may not be naturally drawn to.

Jessica

Hello! I’m Jess, 27 and an avid reader who loves talking to friends about books. I’ve never done a proper book club though and thought it would be fun to try. Mostly read fantasy / fiction (science-fi, historical, romance etc) but have dabbled in other genres and happy to give anything a try!

Jack King-Spooner

M(39) I like fairy tales. I like lots of things to be honest: poems, arty things. Love Don Delillo. I really love the things I love. Love creativity. I'm the Creative Director at an indie game company. Artist and Art lover. I love that we live in meaning. Looking to make friends and chat nonsense.

Ellie

I am 33, I used to read a ton but I've been on a reading slump for a few years that I've recently started to get out of. :) I think joining a book club and having engaging conversations will keep me motivated reach my reading goals this year (to complete least 20 books). I like literary fiction, a bit of fantasy (I loved Name of the Wind!), and non-fiction books on psychology and human relationships. Also want to read more LGBT+ books this year. <3

It takes a while to get you sucked in, but once it happens it's just a great fantasy book. It's quite descriptive and you can't not root for Kvothe, the main character, orphaned at a young age in a traumatic encounter where his whole family and travelling troupe gets killed by some mysterious figures, who then has to do everything in his power to survive - and he is great at it! There is so much going on in this novel that it's hard to summarise. (also it's part of a trilogy) But it contains music, study, mystery, a few dragons, strong friendships and romance, which is a magic blend of elements for me.

Pages and Pastries

Really keen to start up a new book club for some likeminded people who want to get back into reading and would like to meet every 3 weeks to a month to discuss our chosen book, eat some delish pastries and drink some good coffee! I enjoy reading fantasy and books about all types of psychology but I am also eager to start reading books/genres I wouldn’t usually opt for! Reach out if this is something you’d be interested in getting involved with / helping me set up! :)

Thistle & Tales

Whether you're new to Edinburgh or have lived here for years, this book club is for everyone who would like to explore the city's (and country's) literary past and present through historical novels, mythology, true crime and so much more. The idea would be to keep it cozy, small and lowkey with a meeting once a month for tea or a drink. We could read a different genre every month since Edinburgh has such a rich literary scene. Very much just an idea at the moment so would love to let it grow organically together!
