Woodyreads

Hey! I’m 26 (female) and obsessed with horror, crime, mystery, and thrillers. Always down to swap recs or dive into new genres—open to just about anything if it keeps me turning pages! Anyone down to read some of these genres together? Can be online or in person x I just need someone to talk about some of these shocking reads with 😫

The last house on needless street

The Last House on Needless Street is so eerie and clever—it constantly keeps you questioning what’s real. It’s unsettling but also surprisingly emotional, and it stuck with me long after I finished.

RKhatun

Hi, i'm 23 and I've been obsessed with reading my whole life! I love mysteries, psychological thrillers and crime books but in-between reading those, I like to unwind with a chick-lit/lighthearted romance book. I have also been loving reading general fiction books these past couple of years, specifically more emotional/sad ones. Some of my favourite authors are Holly Jackson, Jodi Picoult, Alice Feeney, and John Marrs. I'm looking to join a relaxed book group, to meet likeminded individuals who share my love of reading! :)

Ayesha

Hi my names ayesha i love reading feel good books and romance books. I’d love to join a book group because I’m looking for a way to connect with others in a meaningful, low-pressure setting. I spend most of my time working as a nurse, which can be rewarding but also isolating, and I miss having regular conversations that aren’t just about work. I enjoy reading and would love the chance to share thoughts, laugh, and listen with people who also find comfort and inspiration in books.

Romi

Hi! I’m Romi – I teach Spanish and English and love all things language, literature, and philosophy. Big fan of short, powerful stories (Hemingway, Carver, Borges). I moved to Manchester three years ago, but with lots of back and forth, I’m only just settling in — and still don’t know many people here. Would love a literature meet-up or book club!

Romi recommends:

Why Don't You Dance by Raymond Carver

One of my favourite short stories. I love how it captures so much with so little - the classic iceberg structure. It’s visually simple but emotionally deep, touching on relationships, youth, and those quiet, defining moments that linger long after you've finished reading.

Yvonne

I want an excuse to read a book and share that experience with someone else. We go for meals and go to the cinema them chat after or during that experience. I want to do that with people about books. I'm curious, chatty and want to develop a social life or friendships starting with a book. Ideally, I'm keen to explore the experiences of black people, black women but I'll grow from there.

Chloe

Hello! My name is Chloe, I'm 28- I've just spent 6 months living at home after living in London for 4 years and now I'm making the move to Manchester as I just accepted a new job there. This year, I got back into reading and I love it! I've read 32 books so far this year but want to expand the genres I read and would love to connect to like-minded people who also love reading. My current favourite genres would be: thrillers, mythology-based fiction, fantasy and historical fiction but I'm looking to expand this! I would love to join a small, cosy book club in Manchester or in the surrounding areas!

Chloe recommends:

The Forest of Vanishing Stars by Kristin Harmel
The Forest of Vanishing Stars
by Kristin Harmel | Buy this book
This book is a historical fiction novel based in the Nalibocka forest during World War II and centres on Yona, a woman kidnapped from a German family when she was a toddler and was raised in the forest by an eccentric elderly woman. This was honestly such a nice surprise of a book- it explores themes of love, survival and betrayal.
