The Worldwide Warm & simple Book Club (Prestwick)

Our book club explores stories and ideas that help us understand what it means to be human—through empathy, courage, meaning, and hope. We read books that invite reflection and encourage us to live more thoughtfully and compassionately. The focus is on stories and ideas that are honest yet hopeful, and that inspire a more conscious, life-affirming way of living. Reflective & invitational This book club is for readers drawn to works that deepen our understanding of humanity. We’re interested in books that don’t just observe life, but gently challenge us to live with greater purpose, empathy, and responsibility. We choose books that examine what it means to be human in a positive, forward-looking way—stories and reflections that encourage personal growth, moral clarity, and thoughtful engagement with the world. Whether Biography faith, philosophy, or psychology are welcome themes I would prefer to have an online meeting at a democratically approved time

Jim (Prestwick)

I’m a reflective reader who turns to books for more than entertainment. Reading is a place of stillness for me—a way to sit with difficult questions, deep emotions, and the hope that meaning and goodness still endure. I’m drawn to stories that move slowly, respect interior lives, and aren’t afraid of sorrow, doubt, or grace. I value sincerity over trendiness and depth over spectacle. I’m most engaged by writers who approach life with humility and compassion, who understand that much of human experience is unresolved, fragile, and beautiful at the same time. Books that explore faith, suffering, mortality, love, and moral choice tend to stay with me the longest—especially when they don’t offer easy answers. I gravitate towards nonfiction with emotional, spiritual and psychological depth. I also like contemplative novels, and classics or modern classics that have stood the test of time. I also appreciate thoughtful memoirs or essays about illness, loss, endurance, and hope. I’m less interested in fast-paced plots or pure escapism, and more interested in books that feel honest and human. I like books that make me a better person. I have an MA Creative Writing and I write essays under the theme "A Writers Notebook."

Orwellian1984 (Kilmarnock)

I’m a 41 year old nurse lecturer mother of three. I have always wanted to join a book club and finally have the time. I love to read classic literature, dystopian or ancient history. Occasionally a bit of pseudo- history. I also enjoy reading about the history of psychiatry and mental health. Bit nuanced but I would love to connect with other like minded people.

I’ve read this book many times. It was written by Orwell at the end of his life and he never got to see the impact. This book resonates across generations with themes of truth, government mass control, loss of freedom and uncertainty about the future. A book relevant today and way ahead of its time.

PlotTwistPro (Kilmarnock)

I'm 42 from Ayrshire. I will read almost anything so long as it holds me interest and has me gripped from the opening page. Current author obsessions are Duncan Ralston, Lucinda Berry and John Marrs. Favourite genres are Psychological thrillers, horror and crime/mystery but I will read just about anything as long as there is a good story. Looking to join a book club to find people with similar hobbies and for book recommendations

Sina (Ayr)

I'm looking for a book group in or near Troon, Ayr, or Prestwick. Ideally we would meet during evenings or weekends, but I am quite flexible. Also I would like to meet in person, instead of online. I love reading the classics, thrillers, horror, historic novels and slice of life books. Not the biggest fan of romance or romantasy.

Chronicles by Bob Dylan
Chronicles

It is a 'sort of' auto-bio by Dyland that jumps around moments in his life. It is poetry, damn Dylan writes the most incredible lines, it is thick (not physically), dense, beautiful, inspiring and kind of helped me around a secong hand box set of his work. If you like words and poetry you may well love this. If you are a stickler for chronology and linearity you may hate this book. I loved it and may well read it again, with a pencil in hand.
