JC (Mexborough)

I have just retired from education, and have spent my life in books. I am autistic and hold both a degree and a masters degree in Education, so my experience with books has been steeped in the profession,as well as my role within the subject of English. Being autistic means that retirement brings loss, but the opportu ity to have a personal purpose in book reading for pleasure. I don't think I can make the leap from professional use of books to personal use on my own. I need purpose. A group would give me the purpose to love books again, like I did before I became a teacher and my purpose was to support others to enjoy books and engage with learning this way. Autism makes my book journey an I.portant part of who I am,and now that I am retired I want to be who I am with a group who also love books but have the neurotypical ability to make choices that are not open to me without the support from others. A book club sounds frightening to me because it involves being with people I do not know who may not understand such a fear. It is however my greatest step to loving books for enjoyment. Thank you for allowing me to share who I really am, because it is who I really am that shapes my need to join a book club.

Katie (Barnsley)

Hi! I’m Katie, I’m looking to join a book club preferably in person but don't mind online as well. I have always loved books and have recently found joy in discussing different books and getting peoples views on them! I’m currently making my way through The Thursday Murder Club series, but love fantasy, romance, thriller, action, and various other genres. There is not much I won't read but I'll admit to not reading much non-fiction but always open to suggestions.

Adventures in magical worlds and cheesy love stories are my jam! Obsessed with epic quests, slow-burn romance, and all the tropes that make me swoon.

Chris (Doncaster)

Hi I'm Chris. I'm looking to reignite the passion I once had for reading. I enjoy the Discworld novels, Lee Childs Reacher series, Stephen King, Dean Koontz and anything ww2 fiction. Spies, sabotage and of course romance. Im a man out of time. I like the idea of listening to the opinions of like minded people, perhaps going out of my comfort zone to read recommendations from others.

Aga (Sheffield)

I love reading, though I don't do as much of it as I used to, being 29 and having a 9-5 job, resulting in a pile of books just waiting for me. I mainly read YA, romance, psychological fiction and fantasy, but I am open to all genres.

Aga recommends:

A modern tale focusing on the lives of three women, delving into the joys and difficulties of being a woman. Once I picked it up, I got so absorbed into reading I couldn't put it down.

I'm a primary school teacher who loves to read. I tend to read crime books and thrillers. I'd like to join a book club to discuss great reads. I'm pretty new to the area so I'm looking to meet new people to socialise with as well.

Fascinating real life stories about anthropology. It uncovers the mystery of how and when people died or the age they were when died.

Sophie (Barnsley)

Hi! I’m Sophie. I moved back from abroad to Barnsley and I’m looking to join or help start a book club (in person and online) to share all the fun books that I don’t have many people to talk about to in person anymore. I’m currently finishing Ruthless vows, but love fantasy, romance, thriller, action, and various other genres. I even bought a non-fiction one recently which is a bit out of character for me.

It’s a combination of modern language mixed with a beautiful take on an ancient romance

KevinMatthew (Barnsley)

41 and just moved to near Barnsley. Used to be an English teacher, now working in an unrelated field, and would like to get to know new people in the area by sharing love of reading. I feel I should be really arcane with what I’m reading, but I generally like a good middle of the road thriller. Recently I’ve been working through all the Lee Child and Jo Nesbo books and now on to Tom Clancy, currently reading Rainbow 6. I like a bit of dystopian too and would say 1984 is my favourite/ best book of all time.
