I love a cast-a-way story, and this is just that, you are gripped from the start! Set in the beautiful scenery of the Maldives, and young boy on the brink of manhood, and a young women trade perspectives on this story of love, survival, and perseverance. It's an easy read, really tugs at the heart strings, and stays with you!

You will love to hate the main character! You certainly will not be rooting for the villain, but you will be jaw dropped at the lengths she will go to manipulate her way into another woman's marriage. And just when you feel like you've lost hope for the naïve wife, she will surprise the hell out of you in the best way possible! This is a lesson is never underestimating the will to survive.

An emotional story set around WW2 with characters that stay with you for days afterwards

It's veeery long - over 750 pages - which is obviously not for everyone, but it's written in a very accessible and immersive style. A teenage boy growing up in New York City in the early 2000s is the victim of a museum bombing, and while concussed steals a priceless painting (The Goldfinch), believing that he's protecting it. Since his only close relative - his mother - is killed in the attack, he then drifts from home to home, trying to keep his possession of the painting a secret. Great for people who enjoy more "literary" stories, as it's reminiscent of Dickens and other Victorian novels, but also a brilliant coming-of-age story. I first read it when I was nineteen and have been obsessed ever since.

Set during French Colonialism in 1950s Vietnam. The story follows an English journalist and a CIA agent during the backdrop of political unrest. Greene is a master of wrought conflicted emotions. Murder, espionage and a critical eye on American foreign policy. A novel to remind us of the grave consequences of self serving interference in foreign politics.

Love the pop culture references. Great fun from beginning to end.
