Joe

Hi, I'm Joe (23), I'm looking to join a club to read more, receive some recommendations and make new friends. I mainly read fiction but have been considering delving into historical non-fiction as I've been loving the Rest is History podcast as of late.

Laurie

Hi, I'm Laurie, 24 :) I'm looking to join a local (Northampton) book club to make friends and help with my reading goal for the year. I mostly read literary fiction and classics but I'm not really fussed about what I read - it's fun to branch out now and again.

Laurie recommends:

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
The Goldfinch
by Donna Tartt | Buy this book
It's veeery long - over 750 pages - which is obviously not for everyone, but it's written in a very accessible and immersive style. A teenage boy growing up in New York City in the early 2000s is the victim of a museum bombing, and while concussed steals a priceless painting (The Goldfinch), believing that he's protecting it. Since his only close relative - his mother - is killed in the attack, he then drifts from home to home, trying to keep his possession of the painting a secret. Great for people who enjoy more "literary" stories, as it's reminiscent of Dickens and other Victorian novels, but also a brilliant coming-of-age story. I first read it when I was nineteen and have been obsessed ever since.

Miriam

I have always loved reading and now enjoy audio books when out and about walking. I love all genres and rarely "give up on a book". I moved to the area a few years ago but what with working full time and mainly at home, would like to find an outlet/way to socialise and meet new people.

Miriam recommends:

All the colours of the dark by Chris Whitaker
All the colours of the dark

Beautifully written epic story about childhood trauma, deep friendship, love, loss and survival, wrapped in a small-town mystery thriller. One of those books you are sad to see end.

Have always enjoyed reading and read a wide variety of genre but tend to avoid romcoms. I'm not the speediest reader so hoping to meet someone/some people who fancy meeting monthly for a chat about life and about books! Kettering and Northampton are both easily commutable for me

DanH85 recommends:

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

Bruce

I'm a mere 56 years of age and am looking forward to meeting new people who share a passion for reading. My reading is usually focussed on history/phiplosophy/religion, on the non-fiction side; and gothic horror and suspense on the fiction side (along with classic literature).

Bruce recommends:

Nu

Just got into reading and will like a cute small friendship group where we could read together. I want to do some self improvement so I completed the book Tuesday with morrie and the boy the mole the fox and the horse. I used to read loads as a kid but fell off and I want to get back into it. The gener I like is thriller, psychological twist, twist, crime, Greek mythology, something that will make me cry, emotional books like Tuesday with morrie and as of right now books that can build a better version of me self. I don’t mind fantasy not my cup of tea cl just depends. But hopefully I get to a point where I am open to more genres.
