The Devils

by Joe Abercrombie | Buy this book

This is definitely my book of the year so far. The characters were outstanding, the plot labyrinthine but above all the storytelling was masterful. The way Joe switches the story’s perspective from one character to another, leaving story threads unresolved but then masterfully bringing them together was simply genius. We waited a long time for this new series and I feared it might not hit the heights of The First Law or The Age of Madness, but it may just have topped them. The language is very strong and the subject matter can be explicit but do give it a go.
