Samantha (prefer Sam) (Sunderland)

I was a big reader when I was younger but then life got too busy. I fell in love with reading again in September 2023 thanks to a friend. I'm obsessed with both Books and Cats! 📚🐈 I'm always switching between physical books, my kindle, and borrowbook app. ✨ My Instagram:@samw1984 Hoping to post more book content 😊 goodreads.com/user/show/172694124-sam-metcalfe My go-to Genres: Contemporary Romance, Mystery & Thrillers, Sci-Fi & Fantasy. However I'm up to reading most Genres. 💙

Crier's War by Nina Varela
Crier's War
by Nina Varela | Buy this book
In short: It's a fantasy Duology that's Sapphic and full of action. More details... After the War of Kinds ravaged the kingdom of Rabu, the Automae, Designed to be the playthings of royals, took over the estates of their owners and bent the human race to their will. Now, Ayla, a human servant rising the ranks at the House of the Sovereign, dreams of avenging the death of her family… by killing the Sovereign’s daughter, Lady Crier. Crier, who was Made to be beautiful, to be flawless. And to take over the work of her father. Crier had been preparing to do just that—to inherit her father’s rule over the land. But that was before she was betrothed to Scyre Kinok, who seems to have a thousand secrets. That was before she discovered her father isn’t as benevolent as she thought. That was before she met Ayla. Set in a richly-imagined fantasy world, Nina Varela’s debut novel is a sweepingly romantic tale of love, loss and revenge, that challenges what it really means to be human.

It’s weird, there’s several disparate stories within a story, but it all amounts to a satisfying whole.

Hilary (Newcastle upon Tyne)

I want my group to meet on zoom. I am at present in a book group via zoom but the group is shared zoom and actual meeting and l fi d that the hybrid set up does not work well. My interests are wide and varied but perhaps Scottish history and Latin. I am very elderly and fairly immobile, but fortunately with my wits. I live in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne. I have three adult children none of whom lives in the north east.
