Rhys

I enjoy scifi and horror. Scifi subgenres I quite like are pulp scifi and retro futurism. I don’t have may friends who like reading so I’d like to connect with people with similar interests

Rhys recommends:

Just one more chapter

A fantasy and sci-fi book club for readers who want to read books with ideas, depth and something to say. We typically avoid “chick-flick” reads and don’t shy away from the door stoppers! We’d love to meet at least once a month with plenty of tea and snacks to keep us going.

Rebecca

Mad old bat, reads anything and everything but especially sci-fi, fantasy and historical fiction. Not keen on chick-lit as a rule. Currently loving Sarah J Maas and ACOTAR, with Jane Austen on audio for running to.

Rebecca recommends:

Discworld by Terry Pratchett

I started reading Pterry in the late 80s and loved them all. Discworld books have literally saved my life. Any situation of life is covered with biting wit, searing social/political commentary, vulgar humour and an unparalleled breadth of literary knowledge

Lucy

Mainly chick lit and thriller/crime. Also read a lot of what's popular at the moment. Not a lot of friends read as much as I do so would love to have a cuppa and chat about recent reads.

I love books especially fantasy and historical fiction but will give pretty much anything a go! I’m a sucker for a pretty edition of a book to add to my shelves and would love to find people to discuss books with

I’d like to get back into reading and love doing a ‘post-mortem’ after finishing a book. I mainly read psychological thrillers or what’s popular but open to other genres. I have been a member of book club before but was in France and haven’t met a group of people yet in Bridgend to join a new one.

Lewis

I'm a writer and reader from South Wales. I read pretty much whatever takes my fancy in the moment, but my top genres are: fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction, and horror. Very open to other recommendations. I guess I'm looking for fellow readers who don't take themselves too seriously, who care equally as much about having fun as discussing books.

Lewis recommends:

Replay by Ken Grimwood
Replay
by Ken Grimwood | Buy this book
Partly what I love about this book is the story behind finding it. I spotted a niche, little sci-fi, fantasy book shop while on a pub crawl with friends. My brain immediately went into side-quest mode, and, to the annoyance of my non-reading friends, I spent the next hour in the shop floating on air. I returned early the next day while my friends slept off their hangovers and challenged the shop owner to find me a book based on my genre turn-ons. After a few false starts, he handed me Replay by Ken Grimwood. The timeloop gimmick nearly put me off, but I assumed that when this came out in 87, it was probably one of the fresher examples of the trope. I'm so glad I gave this a go. The characters were great. It had sci-fi and historical elements, and was strangely hopeful while being bitterly nostalgic. Definitely worth a go!

Hi, I love reading and would love to get to meet people and read then discuss books outside my usual easy reading. Love the Thursday Murder Club (and read a lot of Patricia Cornwell in the past) as well as Marian Keyes, Paige Toon, Shari Lowe and the like. I’d love to hear from anyone in the Bridgend area 😊

Maria recommends:

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein

Loved everything about this book, and so has everyone I leant it to 😊
The Pillars of the Earth

Captivating storyline following a family through generations. I also loved the interesting details of how the old churches were built and the way of life in the 12th century era.

I love to read and I love to socialise so put them together with a cup of tea and there you have an enjoyable gathering.

Sian recommends:

The biology of belief.
by Bruce Lipton | Buy this book
If you like self-help books that pack a punch, filled with "wows" by an extremely knowledgeable author, then this is the book for you. It inspired me.
I haven't been completely honest with you.
by Miranda Hart | Buy this book
It's a real and honest look into the background of someone with problems hiding behind the fame. Witty and a page Turner.
