Deen (Manchester)

Hi, I am 24 year old guy looking to get into reading more - I'm mainly interested in literature subjected around romance, tragedy, thrillers and horrors - but open to new topics also. Based around Manchester/Greater Manchester so reach out if you want to start something hopefully productive and social!

Deen recommends:

Eerily reminiscent of our current times... Powerful read, harrowing ending. Focuses on the pressures society has on an individual and the persistent and how free will and thought can be malleated and forgotten. Quite popular for a reason - if you have not read already, read!

AlexiaR (Manchester)

My name is Alexia im 24 years old and i have always had that curiosity for books but never had the patience for it and im pretty lazy when it comes to reading at all. I love that idea of spending the whole afternoon reading in a cosy space at home, as a good house rat. I would love to have a group to read with and to give me more of an incentive when it comes to reading as well as good books to choose from the experience of others. I love romance , fiction and romantic comedies and i am also a business psychology student which requires me to read a lot thus i would love to develop that patience for reading.

Manchester Comics Society (Manchester)

I've elected to set up a group where Manchester comic & graphic novel fans can meet regularly to discuss their favourite books, give recommendations, encourage further reading, and generally socialise. I'm also interested in regular novels, as well as writing, which could be components which are added to the group's purpose later down the line, depending on what others want.

I've been an avid reader since childhood. Now in my 60's and retired I've never been a member of a book club. Although I've participated in a couple of Instagram buddy reads

Federica (Manchester)

Hi! I’m 24 and absolutely love reading. I mostly read classics, contemporary fiction and philosophy books but there’s no genre I wouldn’t like to explore more. I want to join a book club to make some new friends in Manchester since I haven’t lived here for long!

Federica recommends:

If on a winter's night a traveler by Italo Calvino

I think this is a really fun and underrated classic. It's probably one of the most "meta" books I've ever read as the main character is you, "the reader" and the story starts when you begin reading a book but realise that the pages are out of order so you go on a quest to try to find the "correct" copy. It discusses what is means to be an author, a reader and the relationship between fiction and life, all in a very fun and engaging plot. If you want a book about books, this is it!
