Hi, I'm a newer reader but I do love a good book. Mainly read thriller and mystery books, but love a good romance or fantasy as well. Looking to join a book club to help expand my horizons and get more book recommendations.

Love reading, more often than not a thriller or anything with a good twist. Looking for a book club or a few people to get together with a coffee and/or cake and talk books!

Easy to read with some good twists, dark, but not too dark!

Firstly, I must add I'm not into the religious aspects of the book.. But past that, it's a great adventure, you get lost in the environment and get a real sense of how its portrayed. It's really up to the reader on what you think they are searching for. It's a great book for a discussion.

Geraint (Shrewsbury)

An avid reader of both fiction and factual/historical novels, I am looking for a local book club in which to share the joy of literature and discover recommendations for books to read from all others. My recent reads and recommendations include "The Black Angels" by Maria Smilios, "Say Nothing" by Patrick Radden Keefe, "The Secret Hours" by Mick Herron (Slow Horses author) and all of Victoria Hislop's books. Looking forward to hearing from you.

A true story of murder and memory in Northern Ireland. Superbly, sympathetically and accurately written, the account focuses on the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
The Island by Victoria Hislop

Written in 2005, "The Island" is a beautiful and moving tale of four generations rent by war, illicit love, violence and leprosy, from the thirties, through WW2, to the present day. The story of Spinalonga - Greece's former leper colony is incredible, heart-warming and educational. The follow up novel "The Return" continues the story to a modern day conclusion. Both brilliant.

It would be great to meet with others who are interested in reading and discussing books. If anyone in Newport or around is interested in setting up a bookclub in Newport, please get in touch. I am a bit restricted by days but could do once a month on a Friday evening if that suits. Look forward to hearing from anyone interested.

Hello, I am 31 and looking to join a book club to make friends and also help hold me to account to reach my goal of reading one book a month this year. I'm flexible in terms of genre and meeting up. I am from south Africa and moved to Newport last year after living in London for 8 years.

Set mainly in Oxford in the 1800s, bit of magic and about the British empire and the power of translation. I was hooked and couldn't wait to get through it, obviously I was then devastated when I got to the final page that the adventure was over!

As a tree lover anyway, this book has had a profound impact on me ever since. It is scientific, fascinating, sad and hopeful. It's a beautiful story of the authors life and her bond with trees in Canada. Highly recommend

Honestly I bought this in the airport before a flight with zero expectations, and I was gripped. It's a beautiful story of 3 generations from Koreo in Japan over the 20th century. I learnt a lot about the history of Korea and Japan but also fell in love with the characters. It's beautiful with some tragic twists. I cried so recommend tissues.
