Umar

I have always had a fascination for books and literature. Unfortunately, I don't have many friends who read as much as I do. Therefore I'm looking to join a bookclub to share my thoughts and feelings about whatever book is being read!

I’m originally from New Jersey but have been in the UK since 2013. I work in the homeless sector. Looking for a literary book club somewhere in Central. Even better if it was a dog friendly book club, but not necessary.

Ashidmaa

Hi! I'm a structural engineer with a passion for learning and exploring new ideas. In my free time, I love reading across a variety of genres, from thrillers to non-fiction, and I’m always looking to expand my horizons with fresh book recommendations. I’m hoping to join a book group to connect with like-minded people, discuss different perspectives, and make some new friends along the way. I’d love to meet up once a month or so, to dive into different books and share our thoughts!

It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini
It's Kind of a Funny Story

The book is both humorous and heart-wrenching, with a message that encourages readers to appreciate life and to seek help when needed. It’s a powerful story that resonates with many, especially those who may be dealing with similar struggles. It’s also quite moving because, as you mentioned, the author, Ned Vizzini, tragically passed away after completing the book, which adds an additional layer of poignancy to the work.

It’s a really interesting look at family relationships and how people deal with their choices. The characters feel so real, and it’s the kind of book that makes you think about life in a different way.

Hello, I've tooken a long break from reading and writing; while doing it at home is more than possible, I'd prefer to find somewhere to socialize through these interests, especially since I find myself in a gap year right now.

Hello, I am a woman in my late 40s, love reading - literary fiction of most kinds but especially love speculative fiction and anything challenging/off-kilter e.g. 'The Unconsoled' by Kazuo Ichiguro, most Haruki Murakami, 'The Tin Drum' by Gunther Grass to name a very few, also love music biographies. Group of MI5 agents who didn’t quite make it to the top ranks of espionage. They have been seconded to work for a retired spy within MI5 and somehow manage to get involved in highly sensitive incidents. A lot of humour but also thrill of an action packed spy thriller.

salma

I enjoy reading non-fiction books, particularly those related to self-improvement, productivity, and understanding human behavior. Some of my favorites include The Bullet Journal Method by Ryder Carroll, Atomic Habits by James Clear, and Everybody Lies by Seth Stephens-Davidowitz. I also appreciate books that explore science and psychology, like How to Change Your Mind by Michael Pollan and The Ape that Understood the Universe by Steve Stewart-Williams. Additionally, I enjoy books on societal issues, such as What's Our Problem?: A Self-Help Book for Societies, and practical guides like How to Break Up with Your Phone: The 30-Day Plan to Take Back Your Life. I’m also drawn to books that explore capitalism and its impact on society, economy, and individual lives. I enjoy reading about how capitalist systems function, their influence on culture, and their ethical implications. Books that provide insights into these topics help me understand the complex dynamics of economic systems and the way they shape modern life.

Lilly Reader 12

I am now semi retired. I love reading and can't resist purchasing novels where the characters or storyline piques my interest. Sometimes life gets in the way and need a space where I need to engage with turning the pages of books on some regular basis. Would love to then exchange direct views / opinions to widen my thinking of the plot / character(s)
