A superb blend of plot and character, borrowing elements from The Exorcist and The Lord of the Flies with some truly horrifying scenes.

Hello, I am 37 and getting back into reading after having to finish work due to some heath issues, at times I find life can get quite lonely but I love to escape with a good book and cuddles with my pooch, I like to read all genres apart from mushy books, I love murder mysteries, horror, fantasy (anything exciting really lol) and it would be great to make some new friends.

Laura

Looking to meet new people and have interesting conversations about books. I mostly enjoy fantasy and historical fiction but I also read comedy, romance, crime, old children's books and non-fiction. I'm 36, work full-time time so would love to meet up in the evenings, and I'm recovering from some health issues so really looking to refocus my life on the things I enjoy.

Laura recommends:

I'm Alex, 24. I've been meaning to get back into reading for a while, alas I have struggled. Maybe if I meet some folks along the way I can figure it out though?

Alex recommends:

Closer Baby Closer by Savannah Brown
Closer Baby Closer
by Savannah Brown | Buy this book
It's a poetry collection about dating in the modern age. Best review I read described it as "terminally online". Savannah is great at taking moments that, should they happen to us would feel huge, and shrinking them down into broad and relatable terms. It's also just pretty vulnerable and I like that.

I'm 22 and having finished my undergraduate and planning to return to the area for my Masters now without the social connections I had before I'm looking to meet like-minded people who love to read! I'm into all things fiction and would love to get to meet some new faces!

James recommends:

The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman
The Thursday Murder Club

Having read this during lockdown it really brought back my interest in reading, not having read for so long. It clicked with me massively being based down in Tonbridge Wells which I grew up not far from. The characters have their differences in personality which really come through on the pages. Every book in this series I've just adored!
Four Seasons in Japan by Nick Bradley
Four Seasons in Japan
by Nick Bradley | Buy this book
This is what I'm currently reading! About halfway through and really loving it so far. I've never had a huge interest in Japan but the writer really makes you care about these characters, whether it's the 'real life' characters or the 'book in a book' characters. It flows wonderfully and super easy to read.

Mima

I was a complete bookworm during high school and college, growing up reading Jaqueline Wilson and being part of the magical world of Harry Potter but as I got older, life and social media completely consumed me. However that feeling I get from reading a book, has never changed and I would love to have people to share their thoughts and feelings when reading the same book as myself. I’m a fiction reader who loves a bit of romance (mainly the comedy form), mystery/thriller, mythological, historical and literary realism.

Mima recommends:

As Long As The Lemon Tree Grows by Zoulfa Katouh
As Long As The Lemon Tree Grows
by Zoulfa Katouh | Buy this book
If you liked ‘Kite Runner’, you will definitely love this book. There is a certain rawness about the way Zoulfa has written the book, it makes you feel like you’re walking alongside the main character, cheering her on as she navigates the harshness of what life offers her. The literary realism of this book is what makes you carry on reading, not wanting to put it down as you wish for the fairytale happy ending to counteract the despondency of real life.

Hello, 33 year old here hoping to meet new people who actually want to talk about books! I was a big reader when I was younger and have recently got back into it after a very long slump. My tastes are eclectic however I’m finding that my favourite is fantasy (which is a new realisation so I have many to read!)

Sarah recommends:

The Handmaid’s Tale

This is a book I fell in love with after reading it in college for one of my A-Levels. Moving, empowering and infuriating all in one. Also has an incredible TV series adaptation!
