Lilly (Stafford)

I love fantasy, with the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini being my favourite book series. I have worked from home since moving to Stafford so would be great to meet up with people with similar interests!

Eragon - the Inheritance Cycle (4 books)

I first read this series in my early teens and awaited each new release with bated breath! They are incredible, I have never read anything like them. Fantasy, dragons, magic, friendships, family, battles etc, this story has it all
The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
The Knife of Never Letting Go
by Patrick Ness | Buy this book
This book is unlike anything else I have read. I found it to be totally unique, and utterly gripping. It made me laugh, it made me cry; the story itself is so immersive. I would say it wasn't any easy read in that it is quite complex, but well worth it

Read-Up (Stoke-on-Trent)

Hello, I'm semi-retired, currently working as a teacher of English and befriender with asylum seekers in Stoke-on-Trent. I've been an avid reader ever since my dad put me on to Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men". As well as English, I did German and French at A level, which naturally broadened my reading horizon. I started writing short stories a while back and have had two published (in Prole and Tigershark magazines). I quite like the idea of disciplined reading (a book a month or whatever). My best friend is a reader, but he lives in Rotherham, so I would relish debating the merits/demerits of a "set" book closer to home and possibly make new friends along the way.

Read-Up recommends:

The Children's Book by A S Byatt

Apart from the exquisite writing, seen from the view points of inter-related family members, it gives you a flavour of the cultural world from 1895 to the first world war. A lot of the characters come from privileged backgrounds but, for me personally, I was encouraged to see the rise of two working class siblings from Stoke-on-Trent in the fields of pottery and women's suffrage.

Simon (Cannock)

Retired boomer, avid reader since the age of 4. When I ran out of books which I often did, I would read the dictionary, or a thesaurus. I have eclectic tastes, but stay away from horror and tend to like positive outcomes rather than tear jerkers. In need of intellectual stimulation, maybe finding new authors, books - never too late for new things.

Simon recommends:

Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

Sci-fi mixed with philosophy and humour. Our routine existence our world even, seems so safe so mundane, but it could be far from that and this book could give you a new perspective, much like when astronauts saw the first earth rise from the moon.

Sapphire’s unique book club (Cannock)

This book club has a unique twist where we will meet up and talk about the books we have been reading rather than everyone reading the same book. This is an idea I had as I am very set in the genres that I read but still like to hear about what others have read to see if this may interest me and I feel like everyone can then read at there own pace and potentially find a new book that is interesting to them.

Whilst reading this book I felt like I was in the book rather than reading it. There are many twists and turns and it is well written. I won’t give any information away as I don’t want to spoil for anyone but I highly recommend reading this book.

Shambo (Stoke-on-Trent)

Eclectic Reader Seeking Literary Adventure Partners! Are you someone who dives into multiple books at once, jumping between worlds and genres with enthusiasm? I'm an avid reader with diverse tastes, currently exploring the poignant storytelling of Christy Lefteri's 'The Book of Fire' while also immersing myself in young adult fantasy with Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles series (just finished 'Cinder' and eagerly anticipating the next installment!). I'm looking to connect with fellow book lovers who share my passion for varied storytelling – whether it's contemporary fiction, fantasy, or anything in between. Hoping to find a group where we can: - Share our reading journeys and discoveries - Motivate each other to reach our reading goals - Discuss different perspectives on the same book - Create a welcoming space for all genres and reading styles If you're also juggling multiple books across different genres and looking for a community to share your literary adventures with, let's connect! After all, our TBR piles aren't getting any smaller, but they're more fun to tackle together! Who's ready to embark on this bookish journey alongside me?!
