TBC Witney book club

Looking to gauge interest in a regular, in-person book club in Witney! I've not run a club before but am really keen to try get something going in the new year. No specific theme, but ideally it would expose people (myself included) to books and genres they don't normally try! If interested, please get in touch! Daniel

Daniel

I'm in my early 30s and would be really interested to join an in-person book club around the Witney area. I mainly read literary fiction, sci fi, non fiction and graphic novels but always keen to expand my horizons into new genres.

Daniel recommends:

The Savage Detectives
by Roberto Bolaño | Buy this book
It tells such a dynamic, free-wheeling story of two young, idealistic South American poets searching for meaning across multiple decades.

I’m a self confessed bookworm - I always have a book on the go. Until now I’ve always liked the private world that literature creates in your head. I find myself interested in discussing books with other people now. I’m middle aged and live just outside Burford. I like fiction mainly. Any book clubs out there in the vicinity?

Andrew Grout recommends:

Midnight’s Children
by Salman Rushdie | Buy this book

Hi I’m Maddie, I’m 21 and from a village outside of Witney, though frequently in Oxford due to work. I’ve picked up on my reading in the past few years, I thoroughly enjoy both fiction and non-fiction and I’d love to join a club that shares my love for reading!

I'm open to any and all genres! A girl in her 20s who reads a lot of fiction and non-fiction. Currently, I'm in my gothic fantasy, historical fiction and romance era. Though I do love to sandwich in some poetry and non-fiction (psychology, sociology and philosophy-based). Looking for people who love books and discussing them as much as I do! :) x

I'm a girl in my late 20s that has lived in the area for just over 2 years and still do not know that many people. I love reading, mostly romance or romantasy, but will read other genres from time to time. Hoping to meet some like minded people, and make some friends. - S x

I am a fan of historical fiction and books on social commentary. I'm not keen on crime, fantasy and/or romance novels ("penny dreadfuls"). I'm a middle-aged feminist, supportive of the exploration of EDI issues, particularly relating to mental health, the menopause, maternal separation and the LGBTQAIP+ community. I am a keen reader but I live on my own so would like the opportunity to engage with others on topics that are important to our society. I am currently reading, "Henry VIII, The Heart & The Crown" by Alison Weir and "The Art of Thinking Clearly" by Rolf Dobelli.

Emma J recommends:

confessions of a forty-something f##k up
by Potter, Alexandra | Buy this book
Told from a woman's perspective this is light-hearted, funny and deeply serious, all at the same time. As a 40-something f##k up, I found this extremely relatable. It's a fictional novel but it could just as easily be classed as a self-help book and it really helped my understand that I'm not a f##k up, I'm human and there is no text book for life. A very refreshing and uplifting read.
