Book clubs in Clwyd

This book is actually hard to describe but I’ll give it my best shot. Initially I read the first couple of chapters and was scratching my head at how the book had been put together, I put it down for a few weeks and decided to give it another go. Oh boy! I was hooked. The way it is written makes you constantly think about what is going on with twists and turns all through the book. A slow burner to begin with but one of the best books I’ve read.

The final book of the Barsetshire Chronicles

This story entwines the natural world with the human one and gives a voice to a fig tree as she falls in love with a human. The story is beautiful and tragic all at the same time. It focuses on a young girl coming to grips with her roots and how her history shaped the person she would be, even well before she came into existence.

This is a story about a boy born into poverty in American Appalachia. We see Demon through school and work, we see the people he encounters and the challenges he faces. This book had me holding my breath until the end, it made me smile but it also made me feel immense sympathy. Above all, it has made me a better person and more understanding of people's circumstances.

Great detail - it's based in 1967 - leaves you really invested in the characters with nods to music you might just remember ;)

It's heartwarming and just a feel good read.
