The story building is beautiful and it will break your heart

I love how it shows the imperfections of humans and the horrors of mother hood. It leaves the reader to question nature vs nurture , and never gives us an answer.

Is a good book for getting info on a character's psyche through difficult situations, and manages to avoid some of the usual flaws from Stephen King's work

Could not put this book down.

A young girl Mary is sent from India after the death of both parents to live in a manor with her uncle. She is spoilt and “quite contrary” and very lonely. She learns of a locked unkept garden in the grounds hidden away for years. She finds the keys and it is there the magic of the garden her adventures takes place.
