Rachel Wand (Warwick)

I have been thinking about hosting a Book Club for Fantasy / Romance enthusiasts. I have a name but that's about it The Warwickshire Wyverns. Would anyone be interested in joining? My favourites are A Court of Thorns and Roses and Fourth Wing. I'm in my 30s and live in the Warwick area . Would really be great to meet people who love reading as much as I do!

I am on a mission to get back into reading! Due to mental health issues I haven’t been able to finish a book since Covid and I want to rediscover my passion for reading. I particularly want to get reacquainted with the classics but I’m happy to give most fiction novels a go except sci-fi and fantasy.

I'm getting back into reading books for fun. My favourite genre's are fantasy and sci fi, but I find anything that gives a lot to think about, and has interesting themes, is a good read.

Karthi recommends:

Marilia (Southam)

I enjoy reading a wide range of genres, particularly crime, suspense, dystopian fiction and books with strong social themes or social commentary. I also enjoy classics, especially stories that explore society, class and human behaviour. Alongside fiction, I’m interested in self-development and spirituality. I’m looking to join a book group to discover different authors and genres, discuss different interpretations, and read books I might not necessarily pick up on my own.

Marilia recommends:

The Tenament
by Aluísio Azevedo | Learn more and buy
What I love about this book is how it explores the influence our environment and social circumstances can have on our behaviour and the way we live our lives. It’s a classic of Brazilian literature and a great example of naturalism and determinism. Although it was written in the 19th century, many of its themes still feel very relevant today, particularly the way our surroundings, social class and living conditions can shape who we become.

Beautifully written and witty - and one that I go back to time and again and never tire of it. An extraordinary piece given the 'sheltered' life of its author.
