Books with Friends

Meets at The Falcon Hotel on Run by Gail Francis Library service Warwickshire County Council - Libraries Do you love to read and would like to meet up with like-minded people? The Stratford Literary Festival has launched Books with Friends, a monthly book group and phone book group for over 55s especially created for people who might find themselves lonely and isolated for any reason. 'Books with Friends is as much about meeting people over a cup of tea as talking about books,' says Gail Francis from the Festival who is coordinating the monthly events. 'We hope people will come along to make new friends as well as talk about what they liked - or didn't - about the chosen read.' Membership is free, and for members who have difficulties reading because of problems with their sight or because of illness, the Festival can loan audiobooks and listening devices. We also choose books that are available free of charge from RNIB libraries. People who are house-bound can also participate in Books with Friends via a monthly free conference call, which will be lead by a group host. Books with Friends is being supported by Stratford Town Trust and Home Instead Senior Care. The festival is also working with the charities Listening Books and Age UK Warwickshire Befriending Service, as well as a variety of partners in Stratford. The first book group took place at 11am on Thursday 26th February 2015 and anyone interested in coming along should call 01789 470185 or email gail@stratfordliteraryfestival.co.uk to find out the title of the book of the month. All selected books will be readily available at the library. 2016 We now have three groups during the day meeting at 10.15am, 11.45am and 2pm, all lasting an hour and a half.
