Chantel

Lifelong reader, recently moved to Spennymoor and interested in trying out a book club! Currently caught up in all the romantasy hype but historical fiction and a good mystery/thriller have always been my go-to genres :)

Laura

I’m a transplant to the UK from the US, 43, and a longtime book lover. I read mostly literature—classic and contemporary—but I’m also up for philosophy or non-fiction, anything that makes me stop to rethink the human condition. I would love to join a group or meet a friend interested in chatting about books and life over a coffee or on a walk (perhaps with my pup in tow)🙂

Laura recommends:

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

Impossible to pick favorite books, but this is one that I return to every few years and get some new richness that I either missed or had not lived long enough to fully appreciate. I love the way Tolstoy lets us into even the most seemingly minor characters’ minds for glimpses of ourselves, no matter how different we might consider ourselves to the personalities or choices represented. Every character is both flawed and beautiful in their way, everyone the main protagonist in their own story.

It's still my favourite recent book. I just love the place with its statues and great halls open to the elements. A real gateway into another dimension

I'm retired and live alone. A book group would be a way of meeting people with similar interests. I've always loved reading - thrillers, romantic suspense, and historical fiction mainly but I'll try anything but Sci-fi and fantasy.

Susie recommends:

Break it Down: Prequel - The Luddite Rebellion (Wales Rising Book 1) by Rebecca Bryn

I'd already read the following two books and enjoyed them This one shows two of the main characters growing up and why they became the people they did. It's a fascinating story clearly based on accurate research.

27 year old mamma to a 4 year old. I fell in love with reading at the beginning of 2023, so I still class myself as a newbie. I helped create a book club in Durham where I have made some wonderful friends!
