Rhi (Consett)

Looking to make friends who love all things cosy and hobby-ish. Ideally looking for low-key meet ups either in groups or one on one! Lover of Fantasy and Romantasy and won't read something unless it has some magical element to it.

Jinks (Bishop Auckland)

Outgoing, friendly mature lady, young at heart. I am a married retired lady who enjoys other people's company and exchanging views. I have always loved reading and my latest novels have been Robert Harris, Enclave, V2 and The second sleep. I have also read a few historic novels of Ken Follit but then I really enjoyed David Mitchell's Unruly and Kieth Lowe's Savage Continent. I enjoy a variety. I am happy to meet day time or evenings. I look forward to meeting new people and after speaking to my niece about her latest Book Club choice I have sent for Weyward by Emelia Hart. Jinks

Katey and Si (Sedgefield)

Hiya, I'm a disabled 29 year old woman with my also disabled 34 year old husband, both of us are book lovers and will read anything from any genre. Our favourites are horror, young adult, fantasy, cozy mysteries, queer fiction and classics. We would love to get more friends as we don't get out much and we'd love to share our love of books with others. Even if it's once a month we would love to meet new people and maybe make new friends while talking about great books!

Katey and Si recommends:

Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix

If there's one word to describe this book it would be... Raw. It's painfully beautiful and depicts the mistreatment of young women that was all too real for those who found themselves pregnant and unmarried. The supernatural aspect of the witchcraft makes it all the more satisfying, for once these young ladies take what they want from the world, but everything comes at a price...

Karen (Durham)

42 years old. Looking to meet new friends and to breakaway from "doom scrolling" and to get back to reading more! Used to read so much more but fallen a bit out of the habit. Love a good thriller, gothic horror, classics, something a bit quirkier, top 100 must reads......all sorts really, apart from chick lit. Live in the Dh1 area. Open to smaller groups, or even 1 to 1 meet up to chat books and life in general, really. Evenings or weekends work for me.

Read for the first time in my teens and I was obsessed. Read it so many times since. Especially love the part where Jonathan Harker is at Draculas castle and sees so many horrors and realises he's a prisoner there. Wish someone would do a decent film adaptation instead of butchering it.

Mark (Chester-le-Street)

I am focusing on reading more frequently, and lately I have enjoyed Willa Cather's pioneer novels, Jünger's 'Eumeswil', Dick's 'The Man in the High Castle'. So there's a bit of variety there. Classic English novelists are also important to me, so, Dickens, Brontë, Austen, Stevenson, etc. I'm not really into Fantasy, but Science Fiction is of interest. On my current reading pile is more Cather, and Colette, Camus, Mann ... and lots of poetry ... It would be nice to talk to people with similar reading interests.

It is about how people can remain human and loving in the face of hardship and uncertainty. It's about the Land and immigration, and how a certain part of American society developed to contribute to the America of today.

Pam (Durham)

I am totally obsessed with the tudor era, I'm reading : the shardlake series at the moment. But I do read other history non fiction, especially the medieval period. Also non fiction books on these eras and sometimes other periods in all aspects of history. I tend to read several books at a time, it doesn't get confusing, that's just the way I am!

Very interesting plot, gets you guessing on who is the person who's doing the murders, set in the tudor times.

Books&tea30 (Durham)

I enjoy all types of genres and will read any recommendations given. I’ve read all my life but recently very much got back into reading. I’m looking to read some good books but also the social aspect of a book club, leaving the house, social interaction and potentially making friends (which is very hard to do at the age of 30!) rather than sit with a hot drink, a book and my dog or boyfriend to unload my thoughts and feelings of the book onto.

The first fantasy book I ever read. Such an easy read. Romantacy. Such a good plot and a very good/ shocking plot twist at the end which had me itching to read the next books!
