Karen

42 years old. Looking to meet new friends and to breakaway from "doom scrolling" and to get back to reading more! Used to read so much more but fallen a bit out of the habit. Love a good thriller, gothic horror, classics, something a bit quirkier, top 100 must reads......all sorts really, apart from chick lit. Live in the Dh1 area. Open to smaller groups, or even 1 to 1 meet up to chat books and life in general, really. Evenings or weekends work for me.

Read for the first time in my teens and I was obsessed. Read it so many times since. Especially love the part where Jonathan Harker is at Draculas castle and sees so many horrors and realises he's a prisoner there. Wish someone would do a decent film adaptation instead of butchering it.

Jaded

I work full time in a stressful job, reading is the perfect escape and I get engrossed in worlds built between the pages. Recently fallen down a rabbit hole of romantasy.

Pam

I am totally obsessed with the tudor era, I'm reading : the shardlake series at the moment. But I do read other history non fiction, especially the medieval period. Also non fiction books on these eras and sometimes other periods in all aspects of history. I tend to read several books at a time, it doesn't get confusing, that's just the way I am!

Very interesting plot, gets you guessing on who is the person who's doing the murders, set in the tudor times.

Books&tea30

I enjoy all types of genres and will read any recommendations given. I’ve read all my life but recently very much got back into reading. I’m looking to read some good books but also the social aspect of a book club, leaving the house, social interaction and potentially making friends (which is very hard to do at the age of 30!) rather than sit with a hot drink, a book and my dog or boyfriend to unload my thoughts and feelings of the book onto.

The first fantasy book I ever read. Such an easy read. Romantacy. Such a good plot and a very good/ shocking plot twist at the end which had me itching to read the next books!

Perhaps my favourite historical fiction series of all time, it follows the life of Uhtred of Bebbanburg (modern day Bamburgh) and his quest to recover his lost birthright. Every time I read these books I get lost in the world of 10th century England

Of all the books I've read this year I think about this one the most, the ending made me so sad.

Eleanor

Eleanor, 36, love reading books but finding it difficult to have the perseverance to do it in busy life. I find joining a book club gives me the structure to read more regularly and I love chatting books with others. I moved to Durham just over a year ago and am looking to meet new friends.

Chris

Haven't read much new in a while but trying to broaden my horizons a bit now. Previous themes/authors include Martin Amis, John Grisham, Terry Pratchett for fun, and various random bits and bobs and modern european history, currently on a departure with a greek text about pythagoras and a history of women in mathematics, heading on towards babylon or tibet for my next read.

Emily

25 - I love books of almost any genre, but am particularly fond of classic literature and horror. I'd love to meet up with someone for a coffee or go for a walk and talk about books!

Emily recommends:

To the Lighthouse
by Virginia Woolf | Buy this book
This book is such a powerful reflection about how people relate to each other, about the complexities of human interaction and the passage of time. Virginia Woolf is such a descriptive writer, and I found myself having to pause every couple of pages to really appreciate what she'd written.
