Vita

I’m a busy mom of two boys who loves reading as a way to relax and learn something new. I’m looking to join a book group to connect with like-minded people, share thoughts, and discover new books that I might not pick up on my own. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to build friendships and enjoy thoughtful discussions.

Anti-Book Club (Finsbury Park)

Where other book clubs all read the same book, we all read different books! We present our books and then try to find connections between the texts we chose to read this month. Hosted in lovely Space4 in Finsbury Park, we have drinks, nibbles and fascinating people. So come on down to Space4 in Finsbury Park, at 6:30pm on the last Thursday of every month, to talk about the most recent book you read and hear about everyone else's recent reads!

Andy

I’ve been a bookworm since the age of six. Books have been my constant companion throughout my life. I don’t have any friends who read and my fiancé isn’t a big reader either so I’m looking for some fellow book lovers to gush with about my latest reads. I read mostly fiction (though I enjoy a good memoir as well). I’ll read most genres — from literary fiction to crime, thriller, fantasy and sci fi. I generally eschew romances but I’m open to being convinced! I would love to meet up to discuss books over coffee or a glass of wine!

Andy recommends:

Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami
Norwegian Wood
by Haruki Murakami | Buy this book
Murakami is known for his surreal, dreamlike works and they’re all stunning. Norwegian Wood however (one of his best-known works) is different, being more reality-based. It’s about a student in Tokyo in the 1960s who meets two very different young women (one of whom is very troubled), and the relationships (romantic and platonic) he develops with them. It’s a deeply moving. TW: suicide

rae recommends:

what you are looking for is in the library
by Michiko Aoyama | Buy this book
A heartwarming and wholesome novel that follows the lives of five visitors to a library in Tokyo, each of whom is profoundly impacted by their encounter with Sayuri Komachi, the librarian. This uplifting read offers a refreshing perspective on life, leaving you with a positive outlook and a reminder to embrace its simple, sometimes silly moments.
