Rebecca (Peterborough)

Mainly read on a kindle, I enjoy most genres but not Sci Fi, I enjoy reading fiction and non fiction. Love a character driven narrative. Would happily sit in reading, but would like to share and open my reading up to new possibilities , as well as connecting with other readers. and being a bit more sociable with my reading habits. Anyone have a book club I could join.

A prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving
A prayer for Owen Meany
by John Irving | Buy this book
John Irving is inventive, and quirky, his characters are so well written they feel real .The book spans a generation so it feels like an epic but it's not daunting. The characters stayed with me long after I finished the book and Owen has such a unique voice literally and figuratively, it makes you fall in love with humanity and friendship. It's like a modern Dickens or Mark Twain , but it's long so if that puts you off try the audiobook.

Hi, I’m a full-time working professional, and I’m working on developing a habit of reading books, which I feel I’ve let slip over time. I’ve heard that joining a book club can really help with this, so I’m looking forward to get back into reading & to meeting you. Thanks,

I've just moved to Cambridgeshire and am looking to meet new people and hopefully have good conversations about books. I read most genres, although I don't particularly enjoy fantasy novels. I read a lot of non-fiction as well, particularly history and biography/memoir

Brian (Cambridge)

I guess I read about two non-fiction books for each fiction book. There is a huge wealth of non-fiction books out there at the moment that seek to shed light on this crazy world we live in. I love the world of ideas and theories - the best book I have read recently was John Higgs 'Stranger than we can imagine'. I have recently retired, and have diverse interests including guitar making/playing and writing, and I am also looking to either join or start a book group that meets in person, preferably in central Cambridge (I live just north of Cambridge), to discuss works of non-fiction, that can be anything accessible to the lay-person. So it could be politics/society/history/science/economics/biography etc. Is there anyone or group out there of similar inclination?

I read romance, mystery, thriller, historical fiction, fantasy and romantasy. I love to attend regular book signing or events at waterstones and then meet new people to discuss books and reading. Running out of room in my house and little library. I work full time for the NHS but will always make time for reading.

Miranda (Ely)

I'm a fantasy romance lover mostly, but I also enjoy the odd mystery, comedy, dystopia and sci-fi. Looking for people to yap with about cool stories and hopefully make some friends along the way!

Animal: The Autobiography of a Female Body by Sara Pascoe
Animal: The Autobiography of a Female Body
by Sara Pascoe | Buy this book
This book is nothing like my usual genres, it's non-fiction and talks about evolution. BUT it is the only book I will recommend to 100% of the people I meet. Comedian Sara Pascoe talks through her experiences as a woman wanting to understand the evolution of our relationships, both with others and ourselves. It's hilarious and I actually learned so much without even realising it. Everyone should read this book as it gives such a raw and unfiltered look into sex, relationships, our bodies and how and why these have evolved over time. Everyone should read this book.
