Eleanor (Durham)

Eleanor, 36, love reading books but finding it difficult to have the perseverance to do it in busy life. I find joining a book club gives me the structure to read more regularly and I love chatting books with others. I moved to Durham just over a year ago and am looking to meet new friends.

Anathema

The writing is superb, one of the best I found in the last year. Worldbuilding is fun and not too complicated, but enough to keep you engaged. Story a bit dark, spooky and perfect for lover or gothic stories.

Adele92 (Chester-le-Street)

I love reading all genres and will give anything a go. I’ve just finished mystery novel The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley and would like to join a book club to find some new reading material and also get the chance to discuss books after reading them.

Chris (Durham)

Haven't read much new in a while but trying to broaden my horizons a bit now. Previous themes/authors include Martin Amis, John Grisham, Terry Pratchett for fun, and various random bits and bobs and modern european history, currently on a departure with a greek text about pythagoras and a history of women in mathematics, heading on towards babylon or tibet for my next read.

Laura (Bishop Auckland)

I’m a transplant to the UK from the US, 43, and a longtime book lover. I read mostly literature—classic and contemporary—but I’m also up for philosophy or non-fiction, anything that makes me stop to rethink the human condition. I would love to join a group or meet a friend interested in chatting about books and life over a coffee or on a walk (perhaps with my pup in tow)🙂

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
Anna Karenina
by Leo Tolstoy | Buy this book
Impossible to pick favorite books, but this is one that I return to every few years and get some new richness that I either missed or had not lived long enough to fully appreciate. I love the way Tolstoy lets us into even the most seemingly minor characters’ minds for glimpses of ourselves, no matter how different we might consider ourselves to the personalities or choices represented. Every character is both flawed and beautiful in their way, everyone the main protagonist in their own story.

25 - I love books of almost any genre, but am particularly fond of classic literature and horror. I'd love to meet up with someone for a coffee or go for a walk and talk about books!

To the Lighthouse
by Virginia Woolf | Buy this book
This book is such a powerful reflection about how people relate to each other, about the complexities of human interaction and the passage of time. Virginia Woolf is such a descriptive writer, and I found myself having to pause every couple of pages to really appreciate what she'd written.
