Dawn (Redruth)

I used to be an avid reader but have lost interest these days. I'm 61 and spend a huge amount of time walking my collie. I have recently started weight resistance training. Both aren't that social so I think joining a book club will rekindle my love of books and enable me to meet new people to discuss books with/get recommendations.

Dawn recommends:

Women who run with wolves
by Clarissa Pinkola | Learn more and buy
It's a book of old fables past down from generations about women and their suffering. It tells different stories to help women understand life, strife, love, protection and what it is to be female with a strong sense of smell and intuition; like a wolf.

Mostlyonflightmode (Truro)

I mostly read narrative non-fiction at the moment (history, technology, psychology, philosophy, politics, true-crime, biography), but previously read lots of fiction as well (especially speculative, historical, fantasy, sci-fi, classics). I'm fairly new to Cornwall and would like to be introduced to new work by fellow readers while meeting new and interesting people.

Kirsty Koral (Redruth)

I love to read anything, fiction and non-fiction. The genres I probably read the most are historical fiction, the classics, feminist contemporary and gothic. I have shelves and shelves of unread books and would love to meet some people who love reading as much as I do.

RichReads (Truro)

Hello, I’d love to meet other people who enjoy reading, talking about books and going off on tangents. I read fairly widely (I think) - a mix of fiction and non-fiction. I’m a big fan of collected short stories and novellas in particular.

RichReads recommends:

All Fours by Miranda July
All Fours
by Miranda July | Learn more and buy
Whip-smart, funny as hell and rang very true, despite the more outlandish elements
Bunker
by Bradley Garrett | Learn more and buy
It’s so bleak but compelling, and an effortless read. A genuine page turner. Beautifully thoughtful and well written.

Nathaniel (Penzance)

Hello, My name is Nathaniel and I'm looking to join a book group to get out and meet people in a low-anxiety setting. I look forward to meeting whomever I end up meeting.

Nathaniel recommends:

Burmese Days by George Orwell
Burmese Days
by George Orwell | Learn more and buy
Orwell's amazing grasp of prose where it is always evocative but never takes priority over the story he is telling.

Diane (St Ives)

I am a semi retired person who moved to the area in 2010. I live in a very sparsely populated place, with Ceri, a border collie and my husband. I have aways been a voracious reader, and I enjoy a wide variety of genres, including crime and thrillers. I would love to be able to share views and discuss recent reads whilst meeting new people.

Lorna (Wadebridge)

I love books - all kinds of fiction but am totally open to non-fiction too! I use audible and paper to get my ‘fix’ and would love a book club to get recommendations, discuss, make new friends and have an excuse for a glass of wine :)

Lorna recommends:

Secret History by Donna Tartt
Secret History
by Donna Tartt | Learn more and buy
An oldie but a goodie! Tartt’s ability to transport the reader into her world is just unbeatable. But (cheating here) I would also say the Hilary Mantel trilogy are ALSO my favourites As Is the Margaret Atwood Oryx and Crake trilogy …. Sorry, I find it so hard to pick a ‘favourite’….can you tell?! I’m also a massive Stephen King fan…

lenna.awen (Newquay)

Having discovered reading for pleasure around 12 years ago, I am voraciously devouring any and all books I can get my hands on. I have made a vow to work through my backlog of 70+ books! But I'll occasionally allow myself the odd treat while I play catch up. Fantasy, science fiction, speculative, new weird, graphic novels. Le Guin, Pratchett, Leckie, and more.
