The Cornwall Romance Book Club (Truro)

If you love romance novels and want to make friends with likeminded women, then The Cornwall Romance Book Club is the group for you! Each month we choose a book (sometimes contemporary romance, other times historical or fantasy/paranormal/sci-fi) and organise a meet-up. There is never any pressure to read the book, as the meet-ups are mostly for socialising. We are a friendly, welcoming, corner of Romancelandia - and we cannot wait for you to join us! It has a political plot with a romance subplot. It has you raring to flip to the next page, desperate to see what's next and what Jude has gotten herself into this time. It shows the dangers of ambition and shows the effect of bullying on people. The book has themes of redemption and betrayal.

Better read than dead. (Helston)

I'm looking to start a monthly meet up in Cornwall, Helston- penzance- Hayle-camborne sort of area. The idea is to read things you may not have have otherwise read ! I'm not a snob so pretty much anything goes within reason, each member gets a go picking the book. Could be fantasy, non fiction, the torah, books on gemstones, graphic novels etc. I will kick things off with 'the five' by Hallie rubenhold. It's about the lives of the five alleged victims of jack the ripper. You should be able to find it fairly easily, and if you want to save some money I think world of books sells them used. if you are interested send me an email!

I love to read the books that show the other side of the story like The Wild Sargasso Sea about the story of the woman in the attic in Jane Eyre, or about Dicken's mistress, or Emma Hamilton, Nelson's love. I'm completely biased because this is my mum's book but she's a proven author with a Carnegie medal recommendation to her name so I think that's ok. This book is about how life might be for a group of young people after ecological collapse - it's about human nature, the good and the bad bits, and it's about hope. It's very topical and like with many books, I find myself wondering where all the ideas came from - frighteningly possible!

My main motivation is the social aspect, I LOVE talking about books, art, film etc. so I'd like to join a book club to meet new people and to have a bloody good chat about what we've read over a glass of wine. For escapism, I like the kind of stuff they talk about on Sara Cox's Between The Covers. For mind-expansion, I also like non-fiction books on pre-history, history, science, women's health, feminism, psychology, art history & poetry. I'm open to having a go at starting a book club with others too. Penryn is ideal, could do Falmouth.
