Nicola50 (Cannock)

Hi I’m a 50 year old Teaching Assistant who loves to read. I’ve always got a book in my hand in my spare time. I love crime, psychological thrillers, romance, murder/mystery, quite a lot of different genres really. I would love to join a book club to meet new people and share my book reading experiences. At the moment I’ve been reading a lot of Colleen Hoover books which I would highly recommend.

Katy (Stoke-on-Trent)

Ive been reading since i was very young, the first 'adult' book was Catherine Cookson - The cinder path at around 11. I've read many different genres over the years and settled on fantasy - Give me a fairy, witch or werewolf and I'm happy! Would love to join a book club and people who also love books like me :) Im on a 52 book challenge for 2025 - which doesn't sound too hard... but the books im reading currently have an average 26 hours reading, so need some shorter books to top me up :)

This book is unlike anything else I have read. I found it to be totally unique, and utterly gripping. It made me laugh, it made me cry; the story itself is so immersive. I would say it wasn't any easy read in that it is quite complex, but well worth it

Read-Up (Stoke-on-Trent)

Hello, I'm semi-retired, currently working as a teacher of English and befriender with asylum seekers in Stoke-on-Trent. I've been an avid reader ever since my dad put me on to Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men". As well as English, I did German and French at A level, which naturally broadened my reading horizon. I started writing short stories a while back and have had two published (in Prole and Tigershark magazines). I quite like the idea of disciplined reading (a book a month or whatever). My best friend is a reader, but he lives in Rotherham, so I would relish debating the merits/demerits of a "set" book closer to home and possibly make new friends along the way.

Read-Up recommends:

Apart from the exquisite writing, seen from the view points of inter-related family members, it gives you a flavour of the cultural world from 1895 to the first world war. A lot of the characters come from privileged backgrounds but, for me personally, I was encouraged to see the rise of two working class siblings from Stoke-on-Trent in the fields of pottery and women's suffrage.

Simon (Cannock)

Retired boomer, avid reader since the age of 4. When I ran out of books which I often did, I would read the dictionary, or a thesaurus. I have eclectic tastes, but stay away from horror and tend to like positive outcomes rather than tear jerkers. In need of intellectual stimulation, maybe finding new authors, books - never too late for new things.

Simon recommends:

Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

Sci-fi mixed with philosophy and humour. Our routine existence our world even, seems so safe so mundane, but it could be far from that and this book could give you a new perspective, much like when astronauts saw the first earth rise from the moon.
