The Sociable Book Club

The Waverley Hotel in Maryport, West Cumbria, is where our sociable group of readers comes together for our monthly meetings. It's a lively gathering that has been going on for over ten years, originally beginning with the help of the local WEA centre. Now, Cumbria County Library Service provide us with a selection of books each month from an extensive list of genres. Maryport is a small, coastal town located in between the Lakes and the sea and is considered as the westernmost edge of the Roman Empire, a fact that is displayed proudly in our local Roman Museum. As we are part of a remote area in terms of culture, we are interested in joining the IFFP to discuss if our responses are impacted more by the book or by the translation. Plus, many members of the group are linguists and language teachers which makes our debate even more captivating! We welcome new members to join us each month at The Waverley Hotel.
