Looking for new friends—ideally the kind who enjoy sitting across a table, talking through a book properly. Not just “what did you think?” but getting into the ideas, teasing out meaning, and maybe disagreeing a bit along the way. I’m a husband and a dad. Until recently I’d have said I was a die-hard introvert, but in a twist on the usual trend, the older I get, the more curious I’ve become about other people. I read with a pen in hand and tend to lean toward heavier nonfiction—philosophy, psychoanalysis, that kind of thing. But when fiction lands, it really lands. I’ve spent the last year focusing on books by women. Anne Brontë might be my favourite of the sisters—I think we share a dry sense of humour. My favourite detective is Inspector Morse. The most interesting novel you probably haven’t heard of? The Vorrh by Brian Catling. Strange, beautiful, and worth the time. Based in Whitehaven. If that sounds like your kind of conversation, get in touch.

Fascinating insight not only into one person's battle with the bottle but also his road to being sober. Funny (laugh out loud funny in places) but also poignant. Makes you think.

A great journey through the character's life, or rather, possible lives, as she contemplates all the what ifs. Touches on mental health but leaves you with hope.

Philr

53 year old widower who has always loved reading since an early age. Never joined a book club bit feel it might be the right time as I've never talked about my thoughts on a book to anyone. Historical fiction, classics, Stephen King, John Connolly etc, etc, probably prepared to read anything if it provokes discussion!

Lucy

Hi there! I'm just about to turn 28 years old (I'm a true virgo). I love reading and would love to find a local book club. I'm quite open to genre's, I'll typically read anything that's good! But I do tend to gravitate to fantasy and contemporary fiction, as well as regularly enjoying memoirs and classical literature. I currently live in Egremont but would be willing to travel.
