Hannah (Bournemouth)

Hello, I live close to Bournemouth and am looking to make friends with others that enjoy fantasy, romance/rom-com books. Not necessarily a book club, but friends discussing recent reads and recommendations, either online or in a coffee shop.

Hannah recommends:

Girl, Goddess, Queen by Bea Fitzgerald

I am not normally a fan of mythology retellings but this gripped me from the start. I would say it is more of a romance book in a fantasy setting. I enjoyed seeing the relationship develop and the character development of Persephone.

Recently trying to rekindle my love of reading after a year hiatus! I like thrillers, horror and mysteries but I'm open to all kinds of reads!

A Botanical Daughter by Noah Medlock
A Botanical Daughter
by Noah Medlock | Buy this book
Gothic Victorian setting, the secret and forbidden relationship of a botanist and a taxidermist living in a greenhouse at the bottom of the former's childhood home. The botanist comes into hands of an intelligent mycelium, and wants to test his brilliance, and chance at a traditional family, by seeing if he can create artificial intelligence. However, for this he would need a vessel; preferably humanoid.

Indulge me, dear friends, as I share a glimpse of my character. I am a young gentleman with an insatiable curiosity and a profound appreciation for the written word. The prospect of joining a book group fills me with delight, for I am convinced that spirited discussions and shared insights elevate the reading experience, enriching our understanding of the narratives we cherish. 📚 Furthermore, I harbor a fervent desire to forge new friendships amidst the tranquil beauty of Bournemouth. Imagine, dear comrades, the joy of companionship as we stroll along the sun-kissed shores, engrossed in heartfelt conversations and the timeless wisdom found within the pages of beloved books. 🌊✨

A waiter in Paris by Edward Chisholm
A waiter in Paris

This book transfers the reader to the “underbelly” of life as a waiter in Paris. Some of the language is crude but it accentuates the harshness of the environment. The brutal truth of working in this environment is quite thought provoking.

I am a teacher and love to read, but have been so busy for a while that I haven't really had chance. I am changing my role at work soon to get a bit of time back and would love to join a book group to jump back into reading, meet some new people and hopefully enjoy a glass of wine or two with like minded people.

I'm 21, I've always loved books since I was a child. Although, recently I haven't been reading very often I feel if the right book came along I would get back into reading. What better incentive than someone's recommendation.

If you like walking and nature you will love this book. It gives ideas on different ways to walk, for example near water or through trees and then takes a dive into the science as to why it is good for you and a story about.

Ladybird77 (Wareham)

Hi, would like to join a local book club. I’m Mid 40s with grown up family and busy job. Reading is my escape. I read everything that comes with a recommendation. Meeting one evening a month would be great - with wine and/or dinner even better!

My Year of Rest and Relaxation
by Ottessa moshfegg | Buy this book
Currently reading this after picking it up in a holiday book swap. Not what I was expecting at all but it’s really good. It’s about a young single woman with mental health issues who has a mischievous side and a crazy psychologist. As it progresses you understand why she thinks the way she does…it think it’s going to be a heartbreaker.

Bomi (Bournemouth)

Hi! I’m Bomi. I’m currently studying marketing at Bournemouth University. I'm 26. As it’s been only 6 months since I moved to the U.K from South Korea, I’d like to make new friends here through a book group. I like reading romantic and detective/crime genres but I’m open to any other genres as well. I’d like to meet up at least once a month to talk about books and hang out.
