Beth (Wimborne)

Hello! Im 31 and I love reading nearly as much as I love cats. I’m new to the book world as such and am always keen for recommendations. Literary fiction is my go to, but I also enjoy non fiction - anything which explores the complexity of what it means to be human.

Hannah (Bournemouth)

Hello, I live close to Bournemouth and am looking to make friends with others that enjoy fantasy, romance/rom-com books. Not necessarily a book club, but friends discussing recent reads and recommendations, either online or in a coffee shop.

Hannah recommends:

Girl, Goddess, Queen by Bea Fitzgerald

I am not normally a fan of mythology retellings but this gripped me from the start. I would say it is more of a romance book in a fantasy setting. I enjoyed seeing the relationship develop and the character development of Persephone.

Gothic Victorian setting, the secret and forbidden relationship of a botanist and a taxidermist living in a greenhouse at the bottom of the former's childhood home. The botanist comes into hands of an intelligent mycelium, and wants to test his brilliance, and chance at a traditional family, by seeing if he can create artificial intelligence. However, for this he would need a vessel; preferably humanoid.

Indulge me, dear friends, as I share a glimpse of my character. I am a young gentleman with an insatiable curiosity and a profound appreciation for the written word. The prospect of joining a book group fills me with delight, for I am convinced that spirited discussions and shared insights elevate the reading experience, enriching our understanding of the narratives we cherish. 📚 Furthermore, I harbor a fervent desire to forge new friendships amidst the tranquil beauty of Bournemouth. Imagine, dear comrades, the joy of companionship as we stroll along the sun-kissed shores, engrossed in heartfelt conversations and the timeless wisdom found within the pages of beloved books. 🌊✨

This book transfers the reader to the “underbelly” of life as a waiter in Paris. Some of the language is crude but it accentuates the harshness of the environment. The brutal truth of working in this environment is quite thought provoking.

I'm 21, I've always loved books since I was a child. Although, recently I haven't been reading very often I feel if the right book came along I would get back into reading. What better incentive than someone's recommendation.
