DesktopDan (Bournemouth)

After a lifetime of reading, teaching and training, I appreciate the value of being well read. A successful man once told me as a youngster "You are the product of the people you meet and the books you read" A saying I have stuck to ever since. Helping an old friend publish his books, I've encountered the world of indie authors in addition to the many well know mainstream authors.

DCI Harry Morgan's Casebook by Keith Lawson
DCI Harry Morgan's Casebook
by Keith Lawson | Buy this book
DCI Harry Morgan runs a team of detectives in the seaside town of Bournemouth. Their first case is a murder of a prostitute but there are factors to the murders that make it out of the ordinary. Tracking down the killer, who uses voodoo to rule his drug empire, puts Harry and one of his detectives in harm's way. With success, Harry is ordered to run a task force for serious crime and is sent out to investigate some high-end burglaries in the wealthy districts of Sandbanks and Canford Cliffs. The case proves more complex than it first seemed and Harry has to deal with the surprise. In the third case, the murder of a financial expert brings Harry back to Sangeeta, a woman he met during his first case and investigating the death in the company where she works. Along the way, Harry discovers truths about himself and his past that turns his world upside down.

Beautifully written about humanity, love and pain. Set in India the main characters initially unrelated destinies cross each others paths. Thoughtful, provoking and will make you experience strong emotions.

Jemma (Sherborne)

Hello! I'm moving from SE London to the Somerset/Dorser border (near Sherborne) and would love to join or start a book club and meet some local friendly faces. My taste in books is quite eclectic, but I'm more drawn to literary fiction. Books by Iris Murdoch, John Steinbeck, Margaret Atwood and Elena Ferrante are up there in my top twenty! I also love a bit of science fiction and fantasy but I'm keen to widen my reading list and have friendly discussions about books of all kinds, preferably over a glass of wine.

If you like walking and nature you will love this book. It gives ideas on different ways to walk, for example near water or through trees and then takes a dive into the science as to why it is good for you and a story about.
