Ang35 (Bangor (Gwynedd))

Very few things can beat a good book! I’m not genre-oriented and enjoy a bit of everything, though I especially like mysteries and novels involving clues or puzzles. Dan Brown was my favourite writer for a long time. I’m hoping to meet new local friends to enjoy a coffee and chat about books. I’m always keen to hear new recommendations and discover new reads. Happy to meet in a coffee shop or go for a walk in the area while talking books! I’m based near Bangor and happy to travel locally for meetups or clubs (up to Holyhead or Llandudno). Always open to making new friends too.

Ang35 recommends:

The Da Vinci Code
by D. Brown | Learn more and buy
I’m sure most people have already read this book, but I still can’t stop recommending it. The vivid imagery and detailed descriptions of France are what make this book so unique.
Inferno
by D. Brown | Learn more and buy
If you love a thrilling mix of art, music, architecture, and ancient history, this is the book for you. It paints a vivid picture of Rome in incredible detail, with fascinating insight into Vatican City. All of it is perfectly woven into an intriguing and fast-paced story.
The secret Midwife
by K. Weitz | Learn more and buy
Following the life of a young woman who chooses to help other women through one of the most special moments of their lives, this book is both emotional and eye-opening. It shows how what you learn from university books is not always the reality. The joy, the happiness, the struggles, the anxiety, and the fear are all portrayed in such a raw and honest way that it makes you see everything from a completely different perspective. What a book, and such an easy read!
All against all
by N.Allen | Learn more and buy
If you enjoyed watching Squid Game on Netflix, you’ll love this book. All it took was an invitation and a huge amount of money to begin a deadly series of murders

Bangor Book club (Bangor (Gwynedd))

I couldn’t find a book group around Bangor or Caernarfon, so I thought I’d create one myself and bring book lovers together! The idea is to suggest and discuss new books while enjoying a chat over tea or coffee. No meetings have been held yet, but if there’s enough interest, we can organise our first meetup soon. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re an occasional reader or a total bookworm. 🙂

Lorraine (Pwllheli)

Although from the area originally I have lived away and moved back. I used to be part of a book club on the Wirral that I loved but since moving back I have fallen out of reading. I would like to meet people that can encourage each other in their reading and through that potentially make some new friends. I also like to write so being part of a reading and writing friend group would be lovely!

Nicola (Porthmadog)

My mother, Kerstin Eadie has recently moved from Birmingham to Porthmadog to live with us. She has always been part of Book Groups and has left 2 groups that she was part of for 20 years in Birmingham. She is 87 and the book groups have been a big motivator for in her reading. We have been told there is a book group locally at the library. Would it be possible to find out more.

Forn (Bangor (Gwynedd))

I'm a guy(18) who likes to read fiction and non fiction of many kinds. Need to expand my literary horizons and want to meet people who share that passion for reading and who can encourage me to do more of it.- should probably add: most of what I read is pre 21st century and I'm really getting into poetry especially yeats.

Becky (Caernarfon)

I recently moved to the area with my husband. I love reading, mainly fiction, any genre except horror. I have also recently completed a 2-year non-fiction creative writing course. It has thrown me some books that I never would have picked up, but couldn't put down. I live about 3 miles from Caernarfon and would love a chance to meet new friends face 2 face.

Geoff (Beaumaris)

I am a retired Lecturer/Teacher of Electronic Engineering and Physics. I spent 20 years of my working life abroad. I live near Pentraeth about 400 yds from the beach on Red Wharf Bay and have done for many years. I enjoy my computers as well as TV and TV box sets and am always downloading them mainly because I detest sport, quiz games and culinary shows. This means that my go to pastime is reading, I very much enjoy historical fiction by people like Scarrow, Cornwell, Follet, Pope etc and unusual stuff by people like Debora Harkness. I have been reading since I was ten and for many years it was the only pastime available particularly when I was working abroad.

Geoff recommends:

The Pillars of the Earth
by Ken Follet | Learn more and buy
In simple terms it is about the construction of a Cathedral. However the people involved in its construction and how they relate to each other very much affects the construction.

I would like the encouragement of a group to make me read more and explore different genres. I mainly read historical fiction or factual books but also enjoy those that make me consider different ways of thinking...

BookWyrm (Penrhyndeudraeth)

I'd like to join, maybe start, a book club with a diverse array of backgrounds and ideas. I like non-fiction as well as fiction, I particularly enjoyed 'Material World' by Ed Conway recently and am currently reading 'The Travelling Cat Chronicles' by Hiro Arikawa. I'm only interested in a group that meets in person, not via computer screens.

Sally-Anne (Porthmadog)

My partner and I recently moved into the area and i'd like to meet new people and make new friends. I am a creative writer and used to read a lot of non-fiction. I've got out of the habit of reading and i'd love to get back into books and discussion about all things books.
