Delaney

Big fan of historical fiction types (Philippa Gregory, Ken Follett, etc) and narratives that explore events in other cultures/countries (the concentration camps, Chinese communist revolution, etc) in an easily accessible (i.e. easy to read!) manner, as it's like learning but fun! Love a bit of John Grisham, and dystopian realities (that aren't too heavy on the scifi) - just finally started Atwood's Oryx and Crake! I almost exclusively pick up my books from charity shops/car boots so tend to accumulate a decent range. Really enjoyed Dickens when I put the effort in but I've grown lazy and have a stack I've been putting off for years! Would love some morale support in facing some of these more challenging reads; as well as recommending and discussing more modern books :) I also have a huge interest in animal rights books if that's anyone else's jam too! Female, 31 and living in Slough :)

World Wide X
by Max Brooks | Buy this book
Probably the first zombie book I've read (other than Cells by Stephen King, which I don't class as zombie genre - and also didn't rate!) despite being a huge consumer of zomb films and TV series. I'm choosing this as my book recommendation as it's the most recent read to hit my top 10 ever. Even if you aren't a horror fan, the portrayal of the global political consequences of the outbreak are fascinating. There's a ton of warfare info interwoven throughout too if you're familiar with war strategy and weapons (I'm not, but could just about follow along). On the lookout for more Max Brooks!

The story of murder in a grammar school told by a great storyteller. I love the plot. The characters and the twists and turns as well as the development of the investigation.
I haven't read recently a good sci fi book. Can you recommend any?
