Book clubs in Torquay

A consumate storyteller and spinner of yarns, Lovesey has a wry sense of humour, which occasionally allows a passing chuckle for the unsuspecting reader when in the midst of shudders & shocks on the pages of this murder mystery! The hallmark of a Lovesey trait which can catch the reader to stop in their tracks, backpedal a paragraph, & confirm, yes, that mischeivous use of irony added a touch, enhanced the scene-brought it close to what can occur in real life. It is the kind of short, well plotted book to reach for after a lengthy, intense, serious & cerebral read -a little light relief before reaching for your next C.J.Sansom or Follet.

Quality writing that reminds me of Ian McEwan and Ian Banks. A great story that makes me think and reconsider my perspective.

I love Wilbur Smith’s series set in Africa and can picture myself there having been to the locations where some of them are set.
