Jane loves books

Hi, I’m Jane and I love reading. I particularly enjoy classics, romance and crime novels, and also enjoy non-fiction history. Would love to join a book club in Torbay.

Kentish Maid 16

Elderly, retired former English teacher. Outlived all former book-loving pals, still read but miss the company of like-minded others to exchange news / views on what we have read/are reading.

The Reaper by Peter Lovesey
The Reaper
by Peter Lovesey | Learn more and buy
A consumate storyteller and spinner of yarns, Lovesey has a wry sense of humour, which occasionally allows a passing chuckle for the unsuspecting reader when in the midst of shudders & shocks on the pages of this murder mystery! The hallmark of a Lovesey trait which can catch the reader to stop in their tracks, backpedal a paragraph, & confirm, yes, that mischeivous use of irony added a touch, enhanced the scene-brought it close to what can occur in real life. It is the kind of short, well plotted book to reach for after a lengthy, intense, serious & cerebral read -a little light relief before reaching for your next C.J.Sansom or Follet.

Bay Bookclub

For people who like reading and want to meet up from time to time using the book we have all read as a starter to a conversation over a coffee. We don’t take ourselves too seriously and there is no judgement if you start a book and don’t finish it or don’t start it at all!

I read around one book a week and I'm trying to write my first novel, too. Would love to connect with others in the Torquay area over a mutual love of reading.

Dean

I love exploring different worlds whether that is historical fiction, future fantasy or a contemporary novel. Recent titles have included "Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow", "The skeleton key" and "Before your memory fades". Authors that I go back to are Ken Follet, Robert Harris and Ian McEwan. But I love to find new authors, such as my recommendation below.

Quality writing that reminds me of Ian McEwan and Ian Banks. A great story that makes me think and reconsider my perspective.

I am retired and recently lost my husband so am in quite a lonely place at the moment. I love reading so think that joining a book club would be good for me to meet new people and discuss books we have all read

I love Wilbur Smith’s series set in Africa and can picture myself there having been to the locations where some of them are set.
