Sarah

i am 24 years old and have been an avid book reader since I was a child but unfortunately derailed from it these past years. I am looking to get back into it and would love to meet passionate readers such as myself. I am a fan of dark fantasy/mystery and historical books at the moment and I am currently reading book 3 of A Song of Ice and Fire.

From the very beginning, the story takes an eloquently beautiful look on life, and in particular, death. It is gut-wrenchingly sad, and made me cry heavily. 10/10 my favourite book.

If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio
If We Were Villains
by M.L. Rio | Buy this book
To me everything is great about this book. I love how the story unfolds, rarely being told in the present and mostly done through flashback. None of the characters I feel were overly likeable but the writing enabled me to still feel empathy for them. I liked the mix of coming of age, mystery and dark academia in one of my favourite book settings: a boarding school!

A.J. White manages to capture aspects of the trans and autistic experiences so beautifully. Even thought the characters go through horrific things, the book still manages to be hopeful.

Kelly

Hi I'm Kelly, mum to a 3 year old boy in South Birmingham. I'm an avid reader but unfortunately very few of my family and friends are. I'd like to find a local book club to have a good old chat and delve deep into the latest read. I love all sorts of genres, mystery, thriller, horror, contemporary, fantasy, some romance.

Kelly recommends:

Was late to the party with this one and therefore a bit nervous it wouldn't live up to the hype but I loved it. Turns out I love a book where the central character thinks a bit differently to the norm - give me Eleanor Oliphant, Ove, Molly the maid and of course Elizabeth Zott!
