Hi! I am 27 & have just moved to the Southampton area and am looking for like-minded people who love a good book! I love fiction and will read almost any subgenre - fantasy, historical, sci-fi you name it! Ultimately I just love a book that will move me - the best books make me laugh, cry & all the emotions in between. Would love to meet new friends who also share my passion for reading.

The idea: a small, easygoing group meeting once a month in a cosy café around Southampton (open to New Forest spots too, depending who's keen) to talk about the kind of books that actually earn their length — Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, John Williams' Stoner, Jack London's Martin Eden. Big questions, flawed characters, sentences worth re-reading. Doesn't have to stay strictly Russian-and-American — anything in that same vein is fair game. No pressure if you haven't finished the book. No one-upmanship. Just good coffee, better conversation, and people who actually want to talk about what they're reading rather than just being seen to read it. If that sounds like your kind of Saturday morning (or Tuesday evening — happy to find what works for the group), get in touch. Even just tell me the last book that properly wrecked you — that's usually the best icebreaker.

I am a retired Engineer , 67 years, living in Southampton. I spend time reading literature and history . My favourites include books on history of British India , literary classics like those from Dostoyevsky , Flaubert , Maupassant , Balzac , Thomas Mann, Conrad et al . Among modern writers, my favourites are Saramago and Umberto Eco.

After realising my attention span is shrinking and I spend too much time on my phone, I've started to read a lot more and I haven't looked back since! I'd love to share the experience of reading with other people and see different perspectives. I just moved to Southampton, I don't really know anyone and I think a book group would be a great start for me to meet new people. I'm interested in reading many different types of books, especially ones that move me.
