I love reading and would like to extend my friendship group so a book club seems a good place to start. I like the classics, but also lots of modern stuff too. I’m not usually into non- fiction but have tried a few biographies and am happy to branch out a bit.

Miss Buncle’s Book

This was book about a “distressed gentlewoman” who writes a book for money and is then taken aback by the results was written in the 1930’s. The author is an astute observer of people and manners with a very light touch. It is very funny and I love the period detail as well as the humour.

Hi! I’ve just moved back to the West Country after 25 years away and I’m looking to make some new friends with shared interests. I tend to read non-fiction but I’m happy to read fiction, too - I’ll give most things a go. I’m a young-minded 51 year old who is very sociable but also respects boundaries. My favourite fiction author and not the usual first recommendation but all her books are glorious. Funny, insightful and intelligently written - very engaging reads. I love classics - but also love more modern writers.
