Annie (Winscombe)

I’m 73, have always loved reading and been in book clubs wherever I’ve lived. I moved to Yatton in September from Cumbria (before that Oxfordshire) where I was actually in 2 clubs! I think a book club is about extending your range of genres, as well as enjoying those you are already familiar with. I also have always enjoyed meeting new people and socialising. If you require any more info, let me know. Annie

Hi I’m Kate, I’m 26 and moved to the area just over a year ago from South Wales. Over the past few years, I have fallen back in love with reading, especially fantasy and romance books. I’d love to meet more people to chat about books with, maybe with a coffee in hand!

Bridgwater Women's Book Club (Bridgwater)

Hello! I'm starting a monthly book club in the Bridgwater area for women aged 25-35. We can either host it at each other's houses, or we can meet at a café. In terms of genres I'm very much open to anything - we can take it in turns to suggest a book each time we meet. The idea is that it will be fairly informal, just a good natter about a book of our choice over snacks and wine and an opportunity to make some new friends. Please do reach out if you are interested!

Robyn (Bridgwater)

Hi, I'm 30 and looking for some fellow bookworms to discuss all things reading over cake and/or wine! I'm open to most genres from fantasy/romance, historical fiction, comtemporary literature, gothic, all sorts. I've recently moved here from Bristol where I did host a book club so it would be good to rekindle that here.

Bethany (Bridgwater)

Recently started reading again and starting to fall back in love with it. Currently exploring different genres but always down for a good twisted romance or thriller. Very much a comfort reader and love to reread if a book was too good to not read again! I’ve been roaming charity shops recently looking to fill up my bookcase again and I’m loving the feeling of finding a good series or book in unexpected places. Yes I could go and buy the book directly, but there’s something about finding it tucked away in a charity shop that’s just so pleasing.

Bex (Weston-super-Mare)

I'm an avid reader looking for someone to meet and talk about my favourite books with. I love heartwarming romances (even better if its LGBTQ+), fantasy, and the occasional wildcard. (If I like a character I'm in!) I work full time and recently moved here so also looking for friends. I also like manga so will be happy to talk about some cool series. My favourite book (for now) is The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, his other books are also amazing!

Bex recommends:

Its so beautifully heartwarming and funny. The themes resonate with me as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, at some points bringing me to tears yet keeping me hopeful. A wonderful reading experience.

Jack (Taunton)

Hi all, I'm Jack, mid twenties and going through my reformed reader phase, getting back into it after a while away! I'm a fan of the weird, and have been focusing on slipstream, philosophical SF and anything looking at the social and political, but I would love to start covering more classics, fantasy and graphic novels. I love new ideas and would love to be part of discussions, hear new ideas from people and otherwise build a nice space to learn about new things.

Jack recommends:

The Good Angel of Death by Andrey Kurkov
The Good Angel of Death
by Andrey Kurkov | Buy this book
It has all the sarcastic and humanistic sensibilities of Terry Pratchett's language, but in scenarios you'd think were possible and people you can wholly imagine yourself wanting to meet. It's a wonderful thing to be able to have small snorts of laughter each page whilst still feeling terribly sad about the whole thing as the way Kurkov writes seems to make it clear that everything will end at some point.

I'm a 22yr old about to finish a degree in Creative Writing. When it comes to books I'll give most things a go, but I particularly like Greek Myth retellings and romantasy. I'm a huge fan of ancient history, and history in general. I also enjoy hiking, horse-riding, comedy shows and musical theatre. I'm hoping to find some fellow book lovers in the local area.

AbiReadsBooks (Bath)

I love a good book and quite enjoy dipping into most genres, dystopian and a bit of a thriller are my favourites. My favourite book of the year so far has been Wedding People and I’m currently reading Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt and listening to Year of the Locust by Terry Hayes. I’ve just moved to Somerset with my husband and our 2 young children and am looking to meet people in South Bath and the surrounding areas.

Jessica (Bath)

Hello, I'm really keen to find some lovely women to start an online book club with (fantasy, sci-fi, romantasy, grimdark sort of books) - Sarah J Maas, Joe Abercrombie, Holly Black, Raven Kennedy etc. I'm thinking an online club that meets fortnightly and in person (in Bath) perhaps every quarter. If this sounds like it suits you please get in touch :-)

Jessica recommends:

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Phenomenal world-building that envelops you immediately. You're taken on an enthralling journey of assassins, power, kingdoms and betrayal. There are some beautiful love stories involved, but it isn't a super sexual book which I oftentimes prefer to romantasy that can be quite graphic (good every now and then!) but Throne of Glass is an entire world that you're able to explore.
