Katie Melissa (Birmingham)

I am a 26 year old female new to Birmingham, only know my partner so looking to make some local friends. I enjoy reading anything but my favourites would be fantasy, crime and horror. I am getting into graphic novels and comics more, I have some classics and contemporary fiction on the shelves too!

Katie Melissa recommends:

If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio
If We Were Villains
by M.L. Rio | Buy this book
To me everything is great about this book. I love how the story unfolds, rarely being told in the present and mostly done through flashback. None of the characters I feel were overly likeable but the writing enabled me to still feel empathy for them. I liked the mix of coming of age, mystery and dark academia in one of my favourite book settings: a boarding school!

Hols (Coventry)

Hi! I’m a 17-year-old student who is obsessed with all kinds of literature. Sadly, many of my peers have passions in various other fields and I’d really love to meet people who are interested in the same things as me, which would allow me to try new things outside of my comfort zone. I hope to hear from you soon! :)

Pete (Wolverhampton)

I have a great love for sci-fi - especially golden age stuff: yesterday's futures, so to speak. I also appreciate good "mainstream" fiction. At the moment I am reading "Name of the Rose" by Umberto Ecco: I loved both the film and the recent series. I also read a lot of non-fiction, history, biography and natural history. I suppose I like the idea of having more conversations about the books I read.

Pete recommends:

Tutus Groan
by Mervyn Peake | Buy this book
This wonderful gothic fantasy is the first of a trilogy, that stands head and shoulders above all else in the genre - yes, even above Lord of the Rings (which I do love, by the way).
