Hello I've been doing a lot of studying recently and would love to read for pleasure again. I like a book club as it broadens my reading and I delve into books I might not normally have selected for myself. I'd also like to meet more people and additionally ensure I carve out some regular time for me to do something that helps create and maintain a better work/life balance. I'm in my 50s and would rather a daytime club as I become a bit of a hermit during GMT hours!

Kate

I have always been an avid reader and have been known to read the back of cereal packets if that’s all there is! Still reading anything and everything at 78 I prefer contemporary fiction but like to be challenged by other genres as I was in my previous book club now sadly defunct since COVID

Kate recommends:

Fascinating insight into the culture and history of Egypt during a turbulent time made personal by the characters and stories in the book switching between the present day and the past

The Royals

We meet every first Thursday of the month at the Royal Hotel lounge in Deal, Kent. We welcome new members of all ages, from 22 to 75! The library service run by Jennifer Manning has been very supportive. We discuss books of all genres and authors, and are open to trying any type of book. Of course, it is sometimes challenging to find something that everyone has not yet read! It’s always interesting to see how opinions can differ and stimulate interesting conversations. We also offer low-level literacy support, as well as signposting to eBooks for readers.
