Ells

Hi I'm a 25 woman, I studied English Literature at uni but have since branched from classics to more literary and contemporary fiction. I love being able to chat about books with others and looking to meet people who enjoy the same. I am open to getting into more genres, especially when I hear how passionate people talk about their favourite books. Some of my favourite authors are Ruth Ozeki and Maggie O'Farrell.

A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki
A Tale for the Time Being
by Ruth Ozeki | Buy this book
I love how this book tackles quite difficult subject matters with as much honesty and acceptance as possible. Ozeki is able to go so incredibly far to the edge that it feels like there is no hope left, to then save you, trying to bring back some comfort. I especially enjoyed the leaning into some magical realism elements towards the end and how she plays with time and space.
Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell
Hamnet

O'Farrell uses the historical facts of Shakespeare's life to compassionately explore themes of grief and the passing of a child. Her writing is so captivating that it easily flows you through the text, even holding your hand and the hardest of times. I recently read her memoir and can see how her own experiences with poor health have massively impacted the way she views human life, this insight really adds to her storytelling.

Reading books is something I have done on and off for a long time, but I’m in need of some motivation to keep me reading. A book club seems ideal for this!
