Hello everyone! My name is Aslan Butler- I am an Events' Planner for The Red Lion, Nash Mills. 62 years old, had been attending a central London book group near my place of work for 10 years until a change to a job in Hemel made it impractical (though I do still follow their choices). Though the group's choices have touched on the crime & sci-fi genres, they have largely centered on modern general fiction with the occasional 19th / 20th century classic. I live in the Grovehill area of Hemel, and as I have to rely on public transport, any meetings would ideally be in the Hemel Town Centre area, or nearby.

Having studied English literature at university I really want to re-discover the sheer pleasure of reading for the sake of reading, and to regularly meet-up and discuss new favourites with like-minded people, and, of course, to make new friends. My most recent novel was Bee Sting by Paul Murray which was mind-blowingly great! My current favourite writers are Evelyn Waugh, Barbara Pym, Yoko Ogawa, Philip Roth, Mieko Kawakami, Penelope Lively, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Sayaka Murata and Kazuo Ishiguro. If anyone can recommend local book clubs to join in Hemel Hempstead I’d really appreciate it!
