I’ve thought about joining a book club for a while now, so thought I’d take a look to see if there’s anything in the area. My least favourite is SiFi/fantasy.

Booker Plym (Plymouth)

A monthly (? as agreed) meet to read ambitious and adventurous books new and old - collectively selected from award winners like the Man Booker list. Casual meet on the Waterfont for a drink and a chat. (No schlock/fantasy/YA/Romance)

Would be interested in Booker prizewinner type books - reading discussion say monthly in a cosy pub such as the waterfront on the Hoe. I like Ishiguro best but opening a book should be like opening a door into another world - open to pretty much all genres (except schlocky YA/Romance/fantasy)

AvidPlym recommends:

The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro

It looks like an ancient myth of Britain but it's ultimately the tale of two people journeying through life together, very poignant,

Deanne (Paignton)

Love reading. Have a stack by my bed, audio CD! in car and generally one in my bag, just in case i have time when i really have nothing to do! Not very often. I love trying out new books, to broaden my horizons. I'm looking for a Book group in Paignton - in person, face to face.. Anyone out there??

Stephen (Exmouth)

Do you instantly wonder “How?” when you talk to people who never read books? I’d give up all technology over reading and can’t imagine a world without being able to immerse myself in the escapism, discovery and pleasure of visiting other minds and worlds found in the written word. I have an eclectic taste in my fictional reading material and would really enjoy sharing my literary addiction with like minded, easy going fellow readers. I look forward to hearing from you and indulge in reading experiences with you all.

“Life After Life”
by Kate Atkinson | Buy this book
A “Sliding Doors” meets alternative time-lines meets time jumping to rectify bad choices in life set during the major events of the 20th Century. An amazing protagonist, plot turns and incredible twists woven magically throughout with great artistry by the author. Engrossing, thought-provoking and incredibly moving.
