Book clubs in Lancashire

One of the most compulsively readable books, I have ever read. From the first paragraph, I was hoped. On the face of it, the protagonist, Sugar, a victorian prostitute, would not seem the most attractive subject for a long book. However, I defy anyone not to be dragged in to the world that is so skilfully described. I was a little heartbroken when the story came abruptly to an end, even after more than 800 pages. If I introduce even one more person to this wonderful book, then that will be a job. Well done. I cannot praise this author highly enough, although I have yet to read another of his books that was as utterly brilliant as this one. I work of some genius in my judgement.

I recommend any of the Harlan Coben or Linwood Barclay books for thrillers you can’t put down! This is the first thriller I read a few years ago that kick started my bookworm journey! 📕📖

Epic storyline, powerful men, tormented souls.

Book one, spicy, heroic tortured men, strong women and the series just gets better! Vampires/Immortals/Shifters/Greek Mythology

The descriptions of characters, settings, creatures and everything else are written so well, they create such vivid and eerie visualisations, and the story is so unique and exciting, I could barely put the book down because I was so desperate to find out what happens next.

Despite lacking much of a plot, the world building, character building and the dynamics between the ensemble are all so captivating that I couldn't tear myself away from this book. Such an incredible and magical piece of fiction.

Twelve Dancing Princesses meets The Haunting of Hill House meets H. P. Lovecraft. Dark and mysterious and gripping throughout, with both some adorable romantic and horrifically unsettling moments sprinkled in. I even found myself questioning my own sanity at times.

The book feels as if the author is sharing her life story with you. It delves into extensive detail about Dolly's search for meaning in her life, her journey to becoming more comfortable in her own skin, and her realizations about what is important as she grows older.
