Paul (Macclesfield)

Hi! I'm looking to join or start a book club in Macclesfield. It would be nice to meet monthly, or every couple of weeks, I don't mind. I'm interested in reading any type of book, it will be good to read things that I wouldn't normally choose myself. My usual go to is science fiction and thrillers, but I'm happy with anything really. I've created a book club here if anyone is interested in joining bookclubs.com/join-a-book-club/club/macc-book-club or I'm happy to join an existing group.

White Nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky
White Nights
by Fyodor Dostoevsky | Buy this book
I believe White Nights captures the reality of love rather than the idealised notion of it. It delves into love as a multifaceted emotion—complex, often difficult to express, and deeply tied to vulnerability. The story portrays the yearning and torment experienced by those who are eager for love but constrained by circumstances or emotions. It reveals that love, in its truest form, is not just about joy and connection but also about the pain, trust, and sacrifice it demands. This raw and honest depiction is what makes the book so powerful and relatable.

Holly-Jayne (Runcorn)

Heyy, My name is Holly-Jayne, I'm 26 years old and I'd absolutely love to start a book club as I used to absolutely LOVE reading and was a huge bookworm when I was a kid, but after stopping for a while as a teenager I've been finding it really hard to pick up a book again and actually keep up with it, so I'd love to a get a little passionate and supportive group together to make some bookish friends so we can all motivate and inspire each other to keep reading and it would also just be really lovely to get to know other local bookworms and create long lasting relationships. I like pretty much anything like I'm not really picky on genres at all (except maybe horror) and I can meet up on Fridays or during the weekends but meetings could just be fortnightly or something, so please feel free to contact me if you're interested 💜

Holly-Jayne recommends:

Chrissy (Sandbach)

Looking to join a book club or meet others who’d like to start one - in my mid 40s and looking for a light-hearted, friendly group to chat books (I particularly enjoy historical fiction or a good light hearted romance) share book recommendations and generally meeting new people with shared interests. I’m open to any setting - books over a cuppa, glass of wine maybe (?) or even a bit more active if anyone fancies walking abc talking books?!

Down and Out In Paris and London by George Orwell
Down and Out In Paris and London
by George Orwell | Buy this book
Having read 1984 some time ago and wanting to delve more into classics, I gave this book a try. It provides a humbling lens on the life of someone whose journey takes them across different areas, where their perspective is shifted by poverty, and the friendships they make along the way. There's no grandiosity or built up happy endings, just a rich narrative. Not my usual book, but very much enjoyed it!
Sentient by Jackie Higgins
Sentient
by Jackie Higgins | Buy this book
As a scientist, it's hard to find a good book that ignites good writing with accurate and engaging anecdotes. Sentient draws on animal senses and what we have learnt from the science of other species, weaving a rich story into each chapter, where you see the humanity of science and the translation of small beginnings upto exciting science.
The Book Thief
by Marcus Zusak | Buy this book
The book thief follows the story of a young girl whose family hides a Jewish boy during the second world war. It elegantly crafts a story rife with tension from the perspective of children, which provides an interesting dimension.
