Book clubs in Kent

A series of stories about womens' lives, separate but interlinked, which come together in the final chapter. Beautifully written and very satisfying.

Unpopular opinion but I preferred this book to the first - obviously you do need to have read The Handmaid’s Tale for The Testaments to make sense, and even better if you’ve seen the TV series after the first book, as an in-between filling.

Gritty realism with a backdrop of 1980s Glasgow, this book tells the story of family dramas and the inner torment of a young boy growing up in chaos.

Love, loyalty, friendship, team building and just so much

The love and loyalty the humans and shifters have with each other…

It's a shocking, alarming (and often funny) exploration of the lives of the working classes in Edwardian Britain. There are many topics addressed in the book that resonate today... the 'deserving poor' vs the 'undeserving poor' the self-serving nature of (some) politicians, the narrowness of available political options, short term employment and what we now call zero hour contracts, and the hypocrisy of the Church and other 'charitable' institutions.

Adored the characters, even the four legged Six Thirty.

It's a book about survival from slavery and abuse but is uplifted by humour and sheer humanity.
