I used to love English Literature at school, it would have been my degree but my terrible A-Level tutor put me off. As an adult, I have returned to reading classic novels for pleasure, but also enjoy anything with a good story and well developed characters.

Archie Leach (Burnham-on-Sea)

Im a single male in my 50's. I'm pretty open in my choice of reading but I suppose crime or murder mystery are a staple along with biographies. I would like to get out, interact with a few people and read much more. I'm currently reading Israel Rank.

Janet (Frome) (Frome)

I have always loved reading but work pressures restricted the time available to get into a good book! Since I recently retired I think joining a book club would give me the motivation to read more varied books and share opinions with a group of people with different persoectives I would also enjoy that social connection I enjoy a variety of genres but particularly enjoy literary & historical fiction and autobiographies

Janet (Frome) recommends:

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver

Very intense and thought provoking book. Barbara Kingsolver cleverly updates Charles Dickens classic David Copperfield and her modern social criticism echos the same issues raised by Dickens. Her hard hitting account of the opioid epidemic in the Appalachia and its impact on the main character Damon Fields, nicknamed Demon Copperhead, is often shocking and heart breaking Once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down.

Nick (Clevedon)

I am a lover of all thinks 'books'. I am an avid reader and enjoy many different genres - recently I have read books such as: Lonesome Dove, Hamnet, The Gathering, Cuddy and The Turn of the Screw. I am an English Teacher but I'm currently working as a Support Practitioner in Weston College. All of my spare time is spend reading, visiting books shops and Libraries as well as looking for anything book related: book ends, signs and even book marks. I'm hoping to find a book club with like minded people in an informal environment that preferably involves a place surrounded by books.
